I was recently speaking with a friend whose company buys data from Google for targeted marketing. He complained about the work they had to do to 'match up' the anonymized data to real people. I explained how I degoogled which was a new concept to him. He then said the famous words, "I have nothing to hide." It baffles me how he de-anonymizes personal data and doesn't understand the problem. It seems to be some kind of cognitive dissonance for marketing people?
@krock right? “Oh if you have nothing to hide then that means I can read through your diary, right?” Or “if you have nothing to hide, can I read all your texts on your phone right this second?” Most would object to any of those questions - so why not have the same reaction to your data being sucked up by Google, etc. or when you willingly give it to them?

@krock 🤣🤣🤣🤣 I am laughing but tbh I’m sure someone out there is legit trying to make something like this a reality to market to big pharma and consumers - “no need for invasive colonoscopies! No need to mail your stool sample in a box to a lab! Want to know what triggered your IBS last night?” etc
@thedeltaflyer Or you could just say, "Can I take a video of you taking a shit with the wiping and all?" 🤣 There are no shortage of obvious arguments to this stupid statement, but they are better than me just calling people naive.
