Dark/light mode switching now available on my site, plus a new overall look and finally a responsive mobile menu. If anyone can suggest improvements for the shoddy .png moon/sun icons, I'd appreciate it. I made them myself in Inkscape and exported them as tiny pngs. Haven't done any icon design before... samhowell.uk

BREAKING: ICANN has voted to REJECT the sale of the .ORG registry to private equity firm Ethos Capital. This is a major victory for the millions of nonprofits, civil society organizations, and individuals who make .ORG their home online. #SaveDotOrg icann.org/news/blog/icann-boar t.co/sFLcwZqU1B

We commend people like YOU, that raised your voice in opposition to the .org registry transfer. You persuaded ICANN to do the right thing!

Three cheers for those that operate with core values aligned with the interests of the public.

(Now if we can only persuade sites like savedotorg.org to stop using #Google Analytics...)

As this older article from MagPi shows, running #Nextcloud on a #RaspberryPi is awesome - and might make a great project over the long weekend or during an extended stay-at-home 🤓
Tip: A RPI4 with 4gb ram is plenty even for use with an extended family!

Find a cool product on #Amazon?

That company exists OFF Amazon, too.

1) #DDG company name.

2) Order from their site.

2a) Can usually find a 10% code!

3) Still get product in 2-8 days.

4) Company avoids losing 25% margin share to Amazon.

5) You avoid giving money to #Bezos.

If you want to introduce someone to Tor, this animation is a great place to start. youtu.be/JWII85UlzKw

Does anybody have recommendations for a white-backlit mechanical which is on the quieter side. I have a small Hcman which is too clicky clacky. It's rainbow backlit and doesn't provide the option for using only one colour (I didn't realise this until after I bought it second hand).

@syntax There's also the JavaScript-free m.zaqs.org, "a customizable news aggregator of online news websites. Our mission is to provide a fast loading website that can show what is going on in the world right now, with multiple perspectives and sources, without editorialization, and to be a good portal for the discovery of new and interesting news websites."

@syntax Down a rabbit hole, I also found the open-source guardian.gyford.com, "For viewing a daily issue of the Guardian and Observer newspapers using content from the Guardian Open Platform."

github.com/philgyford/daily-pa

As much as I feel I should donate to , I see something like the following, and it's just too much for me:

"we place a pixel on our web pages that allows Facebook to place cookies on web browsers. When a Guardian reader who uses Facebook returns to Facebook, Facebook can identify them".

Any recommendations for quality sites that don't go to such lengths?

Glenn #Greenwald providing a much needed discussion of the Julian #Assange case, which as he points out shamefully and dangerously lack coverage and support for his case in the (US) MSM, regardless whether you like the man.

In the first ~40 minute monologue he discusses all (afaik) the facts pertaining to the case. After that, Jennifer Robinson and Margaret Sullivan join the conversation.

So except for work I'm already doing on projects like #homeassistant, I'm ready to #deletegithub , already have my own #gitea.

I understand the why, now the how of regaining the github network effect: are we working towards a federated git network? Or should make gitlab.com a new centralised place for foss?

'Cause I like my #gitea instance for my personal stuff, but what do I do with a new project that aims to grow?

And on to the next unit I go for my course . This unit will be covering the 'defenders of digital rights' 🔐 ✊ , such as @privacyint @eff @torproject. :gnu:
