@freddy
Thanks Freddy. Always a joy to check out the suggestions on PrivacyTools. It's such a well-put-together collection of resources. I'm curious about why DNS Watch is missing from PT's recommendations, and what the criteria is.
@andreas

What provider do you use and why? I use DNS Watch by default as it's preset in and my modem. I was originally drawn to for its promises of and no , but I've since noticed all the bad press. I'm interested in OpenDNS and LibreDNS but it would be good to read some kind of in-depth comparison if one is available.

I thought it had the Model M look and feel to it... but the originals had a single row of function keys.

And then there is the steampunk version

Setting up both was fairly painless as Nym and Monero have good docs. I only set them up on the same VPS as I wanted to try out Linode anyway (great service so far), and while the mixnode requires many simultaneous connections, and the miner will take all you're willing to allow it of your CPU, both services seem to run smoothly alongside each other.

What type of course would you find most valuable? (Comment with any suggestions or other thoughts.)

Set up a spare as a mixnode for their testnet, and a Xmrig miner. Will soon have posts written guiding others to do the same.

Delighted to announce @EFF will be switching to the DuckDuckGo Smarter Encryption dataset in their HTTPS Everywhere extension!

If you're a user, the update will happen automatically giving you broader protection. You can also get it in our app/extension.

@Steinar
The poll was mainly to gauge people's feelings about whether they feel analytics is acceptable in principle if implemented in certain ethical ways.

@Steinar
I suppose you could verify that FOSS code running for analytics is trustworthy by isolating and inspecting it yourself.

What type of analytics would you be comfortable with as a visitor to a website?

Wow, that's impressive it's lasted so long running 24/7 (presumably with constant read/write for logs, journal etc?) Mine is just running a Plex server and Pi-hole. Swap was always turned off too, but after every new install I found it took a few weeks before I got Segmentation Faults. I've now moved the filesystem to a 400GB HDD partition, so fingers crossed I should have no more issues.

Drafting a comprehensive email signature snippet that is #standards based, including contacts for WWW, postal mail, TZ, email, phone, Matrix, etc.

How to include a #Mastodon account? #Fediverse #ActivityPub

I've now nuked and paved my 4B for the 4th time. By now I've learnt from experience that SDs aren't meant to last holding the entire filesystem. After another case of "Segmentation fault" (likely corrupted SD), I've moved the filesystem to a USB. Depending on performance, I may reattempt moving everything to a partition of a 1TB HDD being used primarily for .

“Hey EFF, can you recommend a specific VPN?” No, but… here’s a lesson plan on how to talk about VPNs (and why it’s hard to recommend a specific one) from the Security Education Companion. sec.eff.org/topics/VPN

Hey guys, Thunderbird is STILL hiring developers. You can help modernize an application used by ~20,000,000 people and growing!

The open source community can make something better than Outlook, but only if folks come and build it.
