@redstarfish
Ah the dream. Just wish it wasn't so involved.
@cuqer
I dread to think how many hours I could have saved when reinstalling/reconfiguring software if I had my own #documentation. Now one of my main tasks is going to be creating a personal #wiki of sorts in #Joplin, my #notes app of choice.

@landel
Yeah should be Python installed (if not, I could easily install it). Is pwm a module?
For anyone interested in the #FOSS tool I use for all my #elearning projects, it's called #Adapt and I wrote a #Bash script to get you up and running quickly on #Debian or #Ubuntu:
https://gitlab.com/5am/adapt-deb-setup
Since switching to a minimal #Debian install for my #RaspberryPi 4, I've been pleased with the overall performance, and it's now also running #Plex.
I do miss the easy config of my #GPIO fan. Previously I easily set it to come on when the CPU reached 55°C, but I can't figure out how to target it manually from the #terminal. I'm happy to write a #Bash #script for the task of monitoring and triggering the power. But I can't do that until I figure out the commands.
Any ideas?
Have an Amazon account? Take a minute to check your Alexa privacy settings for voice recordings.
By default, they're saved forever but you can change the setting to "never" here (currently linked to US site, but you can edit Amazon URL to your region):

Spy pixels in emails 'have become endemic'.
Good to see a front page piece on the BBC about this. I can’t remember the last time I saw someone do this in a lawful manner.

“Why I Still Use RSS - atthislink”
https://atthis.link/blog/2021/rss.html
I use RSS _a lot_. Over 90% of the links I post (like this one) I find through my feed reader. Trying to keep up with web development or publishing using social media feels like a very addictive way to accomplish nothing.
@krock Yep, I have Calibre and think it's a great tool. For most of my years being a serious reader I've preferred printed books, but I like the idea of getting back into ebooks. I have an old Kindle Paperwhite (which I keep off all networks and on airplane mode so it can't phone home to Amazon). Soon I might put some time aside to work on a personal ebook library (with the help of Calibre).
@tilduke There are plenty out there, but so many seem to run services which immediately put me off, such as GA. Payment isn't too much of an issue as I can always pay with prepaid card (I prefer to pay anonymously if possible).
Why can I not seem to find any online stores for #DRM-free #ebooks which aren't using #GoogleAnalytics and which accept #crypto without relying on services like #BitPay?
@FreePietje
And now I've discovered tune2fs - thanks. I always wondered if I could change labels without repartitioning.
I started compiling my list of where to buy DRM-free ebooks in 2013.
Today, it includes 279 bookshops and was last updated on 17th of January, 2021.

My various setups (primary machine, home #network etc.) seem to challenge me weekly, but the satisfaction of fixing issues and taking back control makes the stress worthwhile. I love #selfhosting, and every day is a school day. I recently repurposed an old 1TB HDD as a #NAS and want to try some kind of #mediaserver, but Netflix has become an expectation in the household. Share your #RaspberryPi / other self-hosting project ideas!
@dajbelshaw
Always good to have config backups for all routers, switches etc in case you need to restore.
@ThreeBadgersInATrenchcoat I agree. I've done all I can for now / all I have the patience for (disabled logging, swap etc.). Other than that I'll just keep an eye on performance, clone the SD every month or so.
@jet So far I've commented out everything logging to /var/ in rsyslog.conf and disabled the service for good measure. Also set journald.conf to 'storage=volatile' -- I figure it's good to have some logs in memory rather than disabling journal completely. But it's trial and error for me currently...
