@FreePietje
I actually tried in this order:
1. PARTUUID, resulted in kernel panic;
2. UUID, after reading somewhere this was better method, still resulted in kernel panic;
3. Reverted everything, so back to "root=LABEL=RASPIROOT", which strangely still resulted in kernel panic on boot. Maybe all caused by the first attempt breaking something.

I need to start a fresh attempt using LABEL method.

How to Lower the Price of Plant-Based Meat
us14.campaign-archive.com/?u=6

My thoughts: plant-based meat is still 2x more expensive than beef and 4x more expensive than chicken... but getting cheaper and growing in distribution across America, Europe and Asia.

Even if you're not vegetarian, please consider eating plant-based meat for its lower environmental impact. Choosing vegetarian food sometimes is still better than doing nothing.

@FreePietje
Thanks. That's why I don't understand why my original method didn't work: simply adding the HDD PARTUUID to /boot/cmdline.txt and /etc/fstab. Maybe I'll try again soon and label the partition "RASPIROOT".

@FreePietje
Oh I didn't label the HDD partition RASPIROOT or delete root from SD afterwards. I followed a guide which showed adding the HDD PARTUUID to the SD's /boot/config.txt (root=) then editing /etc/fstab on cloned HDD root.

@jet Thanks. I've now disabled Pi-hole logs. Any other system logs etc. which can/should be disabled?

@bbbhltz Pretty straightforward: raspi.debian.net Comes very minimal though, without network-manager etc. But that's a good thing in my opinion, especially for dedicated headless uses like Pi-hole.

@djsumdog Hard to tell. It seemed worn/corrupted with my last install, but I had swap enabled, 24/7 logs etc, so no surprise it wasn't healthy. But now after flashing Debian it seems OK again. The SD card is fairly new, class 10 SanDisk, ~60GB.

@ademalsasa Would I be able to do that now I've already written the image to the SD?

Now running minimal vanilla on my 4B for . Unfortunately I tried but failed to boot with root mounted to . After the third attempt's kernel panic due to "no working init found", I gave up. I now at least have swap disabled on and Pi-hole logs disabled. Any other tips for SD longevity?

I'd also add that the apostrophe shouldn't be there, but simply removing it would make the hash tag plural (presumably not what you want), so you'd want to add a space or similar.

@thenewoil
*Wipes SD card*
*Installs minimal Debian*
*Breathes sigh of relief*

@vol
I read that one of the best things to do is disable swap. Did you do that? I seem to remember my SD is a decent SanDisk one with ~64GB storage, but I never disabled swap etc. I won't know the state of it till o run a proper fsck on my primary machine later. Either way I'm going to ditch Raspberry Pi OS and try minimal Debian on external HDD.

Can I have suggestions/links of CC music from artists that happen to also be on fedi, please and thank you? :blobaww:

@nikolal
Yeah I'm not sure why my SD is having issues as I only use the Pi (4B) for Pi-hole. Maybe I'll try disabling logs etc. Or maybe it's something else that's causes the issue. But either way, it has made me reluctant to use SD going forward. The annoying thing is I have a spare m.2 but no adapter (Pi hat or adapter cable). I wonder how well my 1TB HDD would perform instead...

@FreePietje
Yeah that's what I plan to do. Give the Pi a rest, check the card. If it can't be recovered then I'll ditch it and start using an HDD or SSD.
