Update: we just got a call from a Google VP who explained the suspension was triggered by a report of extremely abusive content accessible on the matrix.org server. Our trust & safety team had already acted on it, and the app should be reinstated shortly.

I started using it mostly for additional layer of security although I already have UFW active. I allow password auth for a non-root user just in case I don't have access to my keys.

@ITwrx
I use public key auth but also allow password auth for non-root user in case I need access and don't have access to my keys.

Indeed. I made sure to update port in jail.local and even /etc/services, but with a port other than 22, things just don't seem to work, including logs in /var/log/auth.log.

I'm no expert so it's difficult to debug effectively. I suspect it's something to do with the way F2B talks to iptables.

It was all going great with my jails on two of my VPSs until I changed the port SSH listens on. F2B seems to only work when SSH port is 22. Anyone experienced this? I wasted enough hours debugging this that I've now removed F2B out of frustration.

Don't know how to code but still want to contribute to open projects? Consider open street maps!

OSM is the community built map of the world. Anyone can edit the map and all the data is freely available and usable in any of your projects.

Start in your own neighborhood. Maybe your street is missing or named wrong. Update the corner shop hours. Map the parks or sidewalks. Anything helps and many hands make light work!

Looking for feedback:

While exploring new possibilities to become more long term sustainable in maintaining our expenses independently from institutions, some are investigating the idea of offering merch.

Not only to help and promote Tails, but also to offer useful products while raising awareness for social and environmental struggle related to them.

After all, Tails exists to help those fighting for social justice and we try to apply the same values to our potential merch store.

Sounds good. To be honest I won't be using Ansible heavily as I only manage two of my own VPSs for things like Nextcloud, my website etc. But it would be good to know I could easily automate setup if something went wrong and I needed to spin up a new VPS.

I think it's time I tried ... I watched a video intro to it made by one of my favourite new video content creators, : invidious.snopyta.org/watch?v=

I was recently recommended tryhackme.com and I can confirm it's a brilliant site. I've been going down the rabbit hole recently and it's great to have a site like this with lots of interactive , a lot of which is free. I may even submit my own learning content someday.

Anyone had luck offering their family/friends pen testing? My Pi Zero W is now running Kali with the Re4son kernel. I want to put it to work for more practice. There's only so much I can try to hack my own locked down network. Suggestions welcome 👍

@nikolal
Good idea for temp shares etc but the Pi stays on 24/7 so I just have a persistent 'Public' smb share, and inside of that other folders including the (unlocked) 'Encrypted' LUKS folder.

New to Mastodon. Anyone have recommendations on follows?

@m455
I'd love to do this, and did try something similar with Prosody XMPP, but the trouble I had was convincing friends/family to try it (suffice to say my XMPP server is now abandoned).

@nikolal Yeah I think if I was going to be using mine more often for backups, larger files etc., I would plug in an SSD, but mine is just for occasional use. For example, sharing smaller files with a few clicks instead of looking for spare USBs etc. Also, I have the LUKS container so we have the option of centralising some of the more important/sensitive docs.

@nikolal
I've had no issues yet. My Pi 4 runs off a 64GB SD but is only used for Pi-hole and Samba shares. It seems fine to me but I haven't done proper benchmarking or anything. I also just got a Pi Zero W with camera and have it running motionEyeOS.
