@dajbelshaw
Would love to do some wild camping but I've always assumed they don't allow it in national parks.

officially recommended by @privacytools, whose opinions I trust due to their independence, research etc. If not Proton, I'd probably consider Mullvad as you can use their service anonymously.

I have no experience of the one you use, but I've used @protonvpn for about two years and have always found their service to be 10/10. My main reasons: Bitcoin payments, strict no-logs policy, Switzerland-based, many servers worldwide, audited code and open source apps. The other VPN providers for similar reasons but mainly because they're @finlaydag33k - 1/2

ProtonVPN, IVPN, Mullvad.

Mozilla Google budget screaming

Something is just wrong here... Mozilla just extended its deal with Google (making it the numero uno search engine) for something like 400 million dollars PER YEAR. For the next three years.

That is 1.2 BILLION dollars from 2020 to 2023.

If you cannot run a freaking NON-PROFIT on 400 MILLION dollars PER YEAR that means:

a) You are paying your executives too much.
b) You don't know how to manage a non-profit.
c) All of the above.

@rysiek
Interesting and kind of exciting prospect. That's my concern: that Firefox is my absolute go-to. Other than Ungoogled Chromium there's no other browser I use for everyday browsing. If needed, I'd probably fall back to GNU IceCat.

@onepict
Uphill battle certainly, but not necessarily Sisyphean. I think the Snowden leaks and more recent exposures of Big Tech's violations have at least opened more eyes. There will always be people who don't care, and those who do. I think realistic success will look more like positively tipping the balance and continuing to open eyes rather than getting to a point where we have a perfect relationship with tech. But of course that perfect relationship is what we should always aim for.

@climagic
It reminds me of hearing/watching Ly-nus Torvalds pronouncing Linux "Li-nux".

I personally say "sue-doe" and have no qualms about that.

As for "jif" - nope. That's just the cleaning product in my mind.

I'm considering buying my first ever laptop this year. What would you buy and why?
