@rysiek Great, I'd be interested in seeing/hearing the talk and demo! Will it be virtual or in-person? (Who knows what the COVID situation will be like in 4 weeks!)

@rysiek Thanks, sounds good, although admittedly I think my contributions will be rather limited as I'm not experienced with many of the concepts/tools used in this project. I'm more familiar with basic frontend dev (HTML/CSS/basic JS), as well as proofreading/copy editing. For now I'll aim to finish up some more frontend changes and create a merge request soon. I like the sound of the project by the way!

The EU has signalled a deeper investigation of the Google/Fitbit deal ft.com/content/aba45bc9-ffc8-4 (paywall)

This is good news, but we also need consumer pressure to stop the deal going ahead, so please sign our petition to the @EU_Commission

@rysiek Hi, I've been doing some work on my fork of the Samizdat repo, and have pushed a couple of commits. The first has a status of "deploy:failed" and the most recent has a status of "deploy:pending" with a label saying "stuck". I'm not very familiar with pipelines etc., so I just wanted to ask if you know what the issues are here.

@rysiek
Ah that will be why. I don't have an account there yet. Will do this soon.

Hi folks! 9 years ago (to the day), the late Aaron Swartz made the first commit to SecureDrop, which was then called DeadDrop. Today the project is used by >70 media orgs around the world.

It's an open source whistleblower submission platform that uses the Tor network to protect source anonymity. We're also working on a next-generation integrated workstation for journalists based on Qubes OS:

We're happy to be here! #introductions

@rysiek Hi, I went to fork your samizdat project but I'm not sure there's a way as it appears to be protected... Is it also on GitLab.com?

escapism and mental health, anime

We need escapism. While it won't solve our problems, it does make them more bearable and helps us retain our sanity during harsh times.

I finished reading another volume of an isekai Japanese Novel, and suddenly I found myself immersed inside that world; and I feel refreshed after weeks of work related stress.

I missed this peace. :blobcoffee:

Now I'm better prepared to endure another week of work.

Also, fuck capitalism. ✊

I would love to try flashing a with /#Libreboot at some point, but after seeing what it involves (flash plugs etc.), I'm not so sure I want to step any closer to the edge of that rabbit hole. I can already see the hours of trial and error and stress, with potentially nothing to show for it. I have a habit of putting too much on my plate...

It's not necessarily *my* FOSS projects that I want to be successful, but rather the FOSS ecosytem as a whole. I have stewardship over my little slice of it, but the FOSS ecosystem is a much broader (and singular) thing that I believe we all have a joint responsibility in caring for.

All free software is ours for the improving: projects will welcome our contributions and we should focus on broadening our impact.

To accomplish this, it helps to work on reducing the mental leap it takes for you to go from user to contributor, until the line between the two roles is difficult to distinguish. Contribute early, contribute often, and you'll be rewarded with a healthier free software ecosystem.

If #Google knew everything about you, they would’ve stopped listening to everything you say.

Look no further than your #email system for today’s #surveillancesaturday.

If you know that your #GMail & others are data-mined, is it entirely “on them” that your #privacy is undermined?

Be an active participant in your goal to remain private.

Avoid #surveillancecapitalism by choosing to make (sometimes difficult) decisions. Give your money to better companies with products that respect you more.

@noeldemartin I've definitely had to get to grips with more shortcuts now I use i3...

@AMDmi3 Sounds good. I'll make a note and try to take a look sometime soon.

@rysiek It's a good idea. I think well written and easily digestible documentation is really important for software, especially when it's on the technical side.

While some users may be able to quickly grasp what's going on, others may be put off if they can't get to grips with how to use it. It's a fine balance, I suppose.

If I have any other broader suggestions while I'm looking through it, I'll be sure to let you know.
