We've come so far, but the first family that kept me safe in Hong Kong is still struggling. If you can help, donations are very welcome. It'll make a world of difference to a mother and her child: t.co/4lNLIa0OGg

@FreePietje No, I didn't know that feature was available, but it sounds good. Not sure exactly how I'd enable it...

i built a tool for quickly scrubbing metadata from images and selectively painting / blurring faces and identifiable features. it runs on a phone or computer directly in the browser, and doesn't send info anywhere:

@marc0janssen Yes, I understand. It's a personal thing to decide where you stand on the matter. Everyone has their own 'threat model'. I just passionately believe that ISPs and others have no right to track and log my activities, no matter how trivial they are. For me, it's more the principle than really believing I'll come to any harm.

@marc0janssen Both. I have Porton on my phone (which runs LineageOS), as well as any other personal device I use (laptops mainly). I have the kill switch and always-on features enabled. Basically I don't surf etc without either a VPN or Tor.

@marc0janssen Not sure about Nord, but Proton has a useful 'always-on' feature as well as a kill switch. I think they're also planning on introducing an auto connect at boot feature, which would be great as I usually have to manually run an alias command from my Terminal every time I log in.

@marc0janssen @protonmail also accepts Bitcoin as a payment method, which I think is important. Accepting @monero would be the cherry on the cake!

@marc0janssen Good to hear. I can't remember exactly when I first heard about @protonmail, but it didn't take long to build trust and I think they're doing a great job in every way. I'm also happy they've recently open sourced all their apps. I rely on using a VPN on at all times (mainly for privacy), and @protonvpn has been excellent as well.

@freddyym Indeed. Thanks for the invite. Much prefer being on this instance. Really great what the @privacytools team are doing.

@freddyym
I had the same issue coming from my previous instance. I think it's just caching. I think it took a day or two for mine to work even though I'd done everything correctly.

What do Amazon, Apple & Google have in common? As well as being massive, powerful & data hungry. They've all been faced with reports that contractors were able to listen to people using their smart voice assistants. They seem to be jumping into health.
