@syntax Why should I assume any tracking is _not_ malevolent? A new site has no way of telling me “We are trustworthy,” which is not in itself an attack vector. Why should I believe any company, when most companies are repeatedly shown to lie about tracking, either out of malice or incompetence?

I suppose you could verify that FOSS code running for analytics is trustworthy by isolating and inspecting it yourself.

The poll was mainly to gauge people's feelings about whether they feel analytics is acceptable in principle if implemented in certain ethical ways.
@syntax And how would that ensure me that is all the collector of the collected data does with it? And do you seriously suggest doing a code audit for visiting a website?
