I used to think minimal, distraction-free writing in couldn't get better than , but this weekend I discovered the power of and its potential as a 'daily driver' for as well as . Currently putting some thoughts together for an upcoming post on this subject.

@syntax are you using nerdtree or something similar? I have a nice vim config I use at work that I found somewhere a long time ago with a lot of nice features you'd never expect to be able to use in vim so smoothly.

@thatguyoverthere
I do have NERDTree installed and I think it's great, but I haven't found myself using it much yet, probably because I'm just not on in Vim enough. But I'm more used to just navigating directories on the command line or in Ranger, so I can see myself neglecting NERDTree. I'll certainly give it a chance.

@syntax Yeah in a desktop env it may not be quite as useful, but I use vim a lot on remote machines. The config I use is based on this one if you want to check it out: github.com/tlhunter/vimrc

@thatguyoverthere
Thanks. I'm also linking my own vimrc in my upcoming blog post.

@syntax I've been using vim for about 20 years to write fiction, (and sometimes code.) F11 magically removes all distractions, and Alt-Tab brings them all back.

@syntax

Try #emacs

It has better features for writing, note taking, coding, task management etc.

@tshrinivasan @syntax And here we are right in the middle of another edition of: Editor Wars! Been there, done that, ate too much of my time.

@tshrinivasan
Thanks for the suggestion, but I remember opening Emacs once, prodding it a bit out of curiosity and being really lost. I may give it another try one day, but Vim is definitely the editor for me for now.

@syntax
I will never understand this. Vim is so counter intuitive, but emacs everything is discoverable, just click the menu or M-x.
@tshrinivasan

@syntax then the #Vim plugin Goyo might be of your interest, since it brings distraction free working to a nex level

github.com/junegunn/goyo.vim

also the combination with limelight is nice

github.com/junegunn/limelight.

@meine
Yep, Goyo was one of the first to catch my eye. Love how you can just map commands like Goyo to <leader>g etc.
