This is fricken' Bullshit. Friends don't let friends run #ewboontew!

Even #Linux_Mint has chosen to abandon, and even completely removed support for Snap itself, wisely.

#Snap is #bullshit. And so is ewboontew. Google's facing a hard lesson ahead that's gonna learn 'em but good:

Stupid is as #stupid does.

@tallship can we all agree that this is bad news, and maybe also make pop!_OS and Mint the default Linux distros to recommend to newbies instead of Ubuntu please. Ty

@FrankIsFrank
I moved my partner from Windows 10 to Ubuntu as it was the only available option at the time (for various reasons). The trouble is my partner doesn't care enough to let me change the distro again. Ubuntu "just works".

Y'know, the only thing I have to say to that is.... "mission accomplished!"

Seriously, I like to bash Shuttleworth and Canonical, but it IS Linux, and eventually your partner is going to need to migrate/update to a newer install. When that happens you've got a myriad of choices to decide upon.

Ewboontew really isn't as bad as I make it - until you start talking philosophy and RMS going all evangelical and saying that they're distributing malware in the form of Shopping Lens (if you remember that fiasco), etc.

I think they're doing some really bad things, but they've made some really great strides in terms of people feeling comfortable adopting Linux and abandoning the old Redmond Way lol.

The problem with telling someone to go with something like Debian, for example, is even when you start talking about things like the concept of *free* vs *non-free* they're already lost on the definitions before you even start to explain what kind of hell you have to traverse to locate the latest version of the netinst CD for Buster (stable), or worse yet, Bullseye (testing), with all of the *non-free* firmware lolz.

First, let's win them over to the world of FOSS, then, we have all the time in the world to make advocates out of them :)

You did good. Really :)

@tallship
Ha, very true! For now I just hope she resists spending God knows how much on a Macbook instead (which is what she really wants). However, she hardly ever uses a laptop anyway, and only really needs it for browsing and (rarely) editing some personal docs.
