If I'm in control, where's the option to disable data collection about me?

This is the choice you get from services that are not free (as freedom) - choose ads, or ads; data collection, or data collection.

"Ads on #Twitter are what keep our service free." - Mm-hmm, so it's not about collecting users' data and constantly reselling it to advertisers. Got ya.

This is how big companies justify your data collection and then its constant resale to advertisers - to keep their service "free".

@TheFuzzStone Putting aside the proprietary software issue, the least these companies could have done before they got so big is to require a small, honest fee for membership, but they clearly prefer the substantially larger profits had from surveillance capitalism.
