Do you have a preferred technique for limiting mobile/cell phone tracking?

@syntax I suppose that if I cared about "being tracked", I would turn off my phone, cancel my internet, and go live in a cave in the mountains. As it is, living in the modern world means sharing your information, which is a kind of modern currency.

@Korsier I think living in the modern world shouldn't require a trade-off of privacy etc. in order to share information in ways you can control (to the extent possible). I think one of the biggest problems today is people's conditioned belief that you simply have to relinquish control and rights in order to get the best out of technology.

@syntax I'm all for tools we can use for better #privacy. I use encryption wherever possible, am considering hosting my own file server instead of using Google Drive, and so on. But if you're already on Facebook and Google then you're basically giving away your information for free anyway.

@Korsier Of course, the first thing I think everyone should do is leave Google and Facebook behind for good, and ideally help others find better alternatives for social media (i.e. Mastodon etc.), cloud backups etc. If you want an alt to Google Drive, I'd highly recommend @nextcloud

@Korsier @syntax Which is why some of us don't use those things. Setting up your own server gives you much more freedom than a place to dump files. Yunohost & Freedombox make it relatively easy for those without much experience. I use one of these and now run my own servers for mastodon, xmpp, matrix, email, calendar & search. All this on a 10 year old net top. You really should give it a try.
