Some real progress made today, just when I was about to give up...

1. I now have a (private) server set up on my , along with desktop and mobile clients using for E2E . Feels good to have a reliable, secure and chat solution I have complete control over...

2. I've persuaded two family members to try out @session, which seems to be working nicely so far.

@techit
I really like it so far. It's a shame Firebase Cloud Messaging is required for reliable push notifications but the good thing is you have a choice to disable this.
@session

@syntax @session would you consider it a better and decetrelized replacement to signal?

@techit
Yes, it's decentralised which is the main reason I like it. And it also doesn't require phone numbers (though I believe Signal are currently working to introduce this feature soon as well). I wouldn't replace Signal yet as it's more developed and established, and it took me quite a while to get family and friends to use it. But maybe the future is Session or even something else. I also wish I could use my private XMPP server more - 1/2

but nobody I know is very interested. I need more friends who are passionate about FOSS! @techit - 2/2
