Some real progress made today, just when I was about to give up...

1. I now have a (private) server set up on my , along with desktop and mobile clients using for E2E . Feels good to have a reliable, secure and chat solution I have complete control over...

2. I've persuaded two family members to try out @session, which seems to be working nicely so far.

Glad that it works! I converted my family to Conversations something like 2 years ago and it works great. (Until one family member got an iPhone and the UX there was not so great)

I wouldn’t open registrations unless you want to deal with issues related to that: spammer accounts (see https://github.com/JabberSPAM/jabber-spam-fighting-manifesto#server-policies ) and general abuse (uploading huge files).

@wiktor
Yes, I will keep it private and just add family and friends manually if they're interested.

Yep, good idea! There are many open servers already for the general public (https://compliance.conversations.im/) so keeping a small server for family & friends is definitely enough :)

Have a nice evening!
