You might be an Internet Ancient if you:

• remember Netscape Navigator

• ever used any modem with a bandwidth of 28,8 or lower

• had an Early Adopter account on Livejournal

• witnessed the rise and fall of PhPBB

• witnessed the rise and fall of Napster

• used the web before Google existed

• ever used a dialup BBS site

• remember Gopher

• ever downloaded music as .mod files

• remember when about 90% of the web was made up of personal sites which were "under construction" and had pictures of people's cats on them

• remember when Yahoo was literally just a big list of websites

• know IRC commands

• have heard anyone unironically use the phrase "information superhighway"

• can recognise different bandwidth modems by what bleepy handshake sound they make

• have ever received one of those chain e-mails where you have to scroll through about a kilometre of forwarded headers only to find a "hilarious" vaguely lewd image and/or a banal list like this one

Is the Web made for Computers? Or are Computers made for the Web? // Lunduke Journal

"Over the last few decades, we have become far too connected. Always On-Line."
lunduke.com/posts/2020-06-23/
This resonates so well with my thinking lately. I have removed email from my current phone. I bought a Casio digital watch (it only tells time). I want to move to a so what do I really want in a phone? Calling, contacts, a camera, music, podcasts.

Does anyone know of an European IT company hiring English speakers? I am willing to learn the local language, but I will probably not have full proficiency on day one.

I'm thinking Ireland, Switzerland, Germany, Norway, Finland, although I can also consider Canada, New Zealand, Australia and other countries outside of Europe.

Please, contact me or let me know where I can apply!

How the Drug War Broke Policing | Cato @ Liberty

cato.org/blog/how-drug-war-bro
"We should absolutely reform unions, abolish qualified immunity, and address how police are investigated after excessive force is used. But it is also important that we look to one of the root causes of why the police no longer have that wholesome, Norman Rockwell image. Perhaps it has something to do with the fact that, every day, thousands of police suit up to go to war against their fellow citizens."

National Guard airlifts "Into the Wild" bus from Alaska trail over safety concerns - CBS News

This makes me sad :-(
People are still going to hike to the spot. What are they going to do with it, destroy it or put it up for display? That would be a shame.

Wow, just wow I don't even know what to say. Was this approved for release by Erie County and does this reflect the official stance?

Good evening.

The #BlackLivesMatter movement has had protests in all 50 US states as well as 18 other countries, making it now officially the largest civil rights movement in history. 🖤

That is all.

Buffalo police officers resign from unit in protest of suspended colleagues who shoved man, 75, to ground

nbcnews.com/news/us-news/buffa
This is good news, we need to remove officers from police forces who think this kind of action is not worthy of investigation. If they self remove themselves that will make reforms easier. Policing is going to change, if you don't agree then get out now.
