@ThreeBadgersInATrenchcoat well, I don't think they should just add m$'s repo and key. AFAIK dpkg has no vendor lock so m$ could just push other packages with newer versions and users would get updated to potentially malicious software.

Should an low-power arm device really have to run an Electron IDE?

Also, why doesn't the rpi team compile VSCode themselves and put it in their own repo.

⚠️ Important PSA regarding your Steam :steam: account ⚠️

Hey everyone, watch out for a new Steam Scammer. This time it's a legitimate Valve employee (or someone who hacked the support system) and is then asking for recovery codes on Discord to take your Steam account hostage against money.

The procedure is as follows:

There is a person called Nikki saying they mass-reported you
They ask you over a Steam comment to add them to chat and it'll be not a scam (it is)
Nikki will then ask you if you could add someone from the Steam support on Discord (probably the screenshot is fake)
This is where the fun begins: Since the scammer has access to the support system they can literally play with your account. Don't give them anything, not even your recovery codes or you risk a full account takeover.

My Steam account (bubblineyuri) is now locked and the Steam support (and hopefully not the scammer) will take a look at it.

Please boost this so everyone else knows it. I think the scammer is one and the same person.

Uighur genocide in China

Genocide and systematic rape

"You may find some of the details in this story distressing."

I do. That's why I share it.

bbc.com/news/world-asia-china-

"Some of the women who were taken away from the cells at night were never returned, Ziawudun said. Those who were brought back were threatened against telling others in the cell what had happened to them."

... "rape was common" and the guards "picked the girls and young women they wanted and took them away".

What the HELL?

In the last year Google has banned: the Element app, the LBRY app, and several Fediverse apps. If you get all of your apps from a single corporation, be it Google or Apple, you should make an effort to change that.

If you have an Android phone F-Droid is an alternative app repository, and it’s very easy to install! All of the previously mentioned apps have been available from F-Droid throughout being dropped from the Play Store.

If you have an iPhone, please consider other options for your next device. Apple does not respect you enough as a user to consider you possibly more capable of deciding what you should install on your phone than they are. That is absurd; please stop rewarding this behavior with your money.

Just deleted my #whatsapp account.

I had announced this move weeks ago, mentioning I would be available via the usual channels (phone, email, etc.) and also via #matrix. That's it. No preaching, no convincing, no expectations.

To my surprise, more than 10% of the 100+ contacts I notified, downloaded #element and all my "important" contacts are now on Matrix!

I'm thrilled!

If the Web had been invented today, Google and Apple policies would ban it from their ecosystems, because it’s not a walled garden under the control of a single proprietor as their policy demands. twitter.com/element_hq/status/

Google has suspended Element (@matrix) from the Play Store for "Sexual Content and Profanity". Basically same story as with Subway Tooter a while back. Element is to Matrix as Chrome is to the web. Curiously, Chrome is still on the Play Store.

@aj wenn mir jetzt noch jemand hilft den nvidia crap zu installieren & configurieren, dann könnte ich das vieleicht sogar nuzen 😁

Google have suspended Element in the Play Store without notifying us; we're reaching out to find out what's going on. Apologies for the inconvenience; in the interim there's f-droid.org/en/packages/im.vec but it's a few versions behind. We'll post updates here.
