@lord @dallin @TheOuterLinux using Cloudflare is not a valid decision. #Libera has falsely posititioned themselves as a venue for the #FOSS community, and yet they push non-free software on users. They've only shifted their own problems onto others instead of actually solving the problem. irc.techrights.org, for example, demonstrates that it's possible to respect privacy on IRC

@lord @TheOuterLinux #Libera uses MS for web hosting & they've jailed their web gateway in #cloudflare. #OFTC forces you to solve a Google #reCAPTCHA (thus #nonfreesoftware) to get a cloak -- & some channels (e.g. #gnucash) force you to register before you have a voice. So bad options all around.

As far as I can tell, #Fetchmail v6.4.0 is just a downgrade. People might want to pin an older version.

Another went down. That company is an supporter of right wing politics and they continue to have safety issues because conservatives don't put safety above profit. People need to learn to stop getting on Boeing aircraft.

@bojkotiMalbona @fsf So if I want to attend the #FSF Directory meeting on Friday using a web browser, I must execute non-free javascript as a precondition? That's so fucked up. #hypocrisy noted.

Choosing a communications platform based on where the people are is sadly a bad idea because the masses do not make smart decisions. Choose the platform that has the proper privacy-respecting technology and policies. Let the smart ones migrate.

#Debian #Bullseye devs decided for everyone to remove SSL2 & SSL3 support from #openssl. Yes, they decided to play nanny to "protect" people from themselves, when actually they lack wisdom to know SSL isn't only for crypto-- it's also to verify ownership of #onion sites. I hate it when some pretentious self-proclaimed security expert imposes their "protection" on other admins.

Reminds me of a flemish commune that chose a different distance from the curb for their sidewalk, and even refused to make the sidewalk match up to the existing sidewalk at the Wallonia border, so everyone crossing the city boarder has to go across grass to get back on the sidewalk.

warning to users upgrading to : the "mutt" package became "neomutt" & the original took on the pkg name "mutt". So if you inadvertently install mutt, you'll run into problems like mutt using the variable smime_self_encrypt while neomutt names it smime_encrypt_self. And /usr/share/doc/muut/NEWS.Debian does not mention this.

@YourAnonRiots Hitting F12 in to inspect headers & payloads apparently no longer works. Was that removed?

@fsf this should be embarrassing for #FSF. Libera.chat uses #Microsoft & #Cloudflare to host their website and web-IRC gateway, and CF forces some to run non-free javascript. Note that the #Freenode web-IRC gateway does not impose non-free #CAPTCHA software.

@kumicota @yogthos @free_appalachia When #Amazon & #Apple destroy perfectly functional (often new) products to block the 2nd hand market from competing with their higher margin 1st hand market products, couldn't that be tried as an anti-competitive practice? Does any state have an #antiTrust law that would cover that?

New Amazon pandemic policy (apparently):

Scavenger hunt included with every order! The driver drops the package somewhere in your neighborhood and sends you a photo. A fun game for the entire family!

@thenewoil Couple good quotes from that article-- a former amazon executive said: "[Amazon] happens to sell products, but they are a data company". The (current?) CTO plainly admits: Amazon tries to “collect as much information as possible”.

The fact that the did not sign the "Call to action against surveillance-based advertising" stands out like crazy. It's yet another indicator that EFF is still fixated on government surviellance, not : fil.forbrukerradet.no/wp-conte
