This “Time to Ban Surveillance-Based Advertising” looks like a good read, apparently drafted in #Norway but pitched to the #EU: https://www.forbrukerradet.no/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/20210622-final-report-time-to-ban-surveillance-based-advertising.pdf
@kzimmermann @realcaseyrollins I was fooled when I 1st checked the IP of #libera.chat because my own script just checks who the ASN owner is (#Fastly in this case). But ipinfo.io shows that although Fastly owns that IP block, the org is #Github. Can anyone explain that? Does it mean that Github hired Fastly, and that Fastly allocated a block of their own to serve Github?
@kzimmermann @realcaseyrollins #Libera.chat is using #Microsoft to host their website (https://ipinfo.io/185.199.111.153) and their web-irc gateway uses #Cloudflare's exclusive corporate walled garden, configured to block Tor and push #hCAPTCHA
It used to disturb me when an online order didn't quote shipping, so I have to commit to an unknown total price. Now when that happens, I'm just happy that I'm able to avoid supporting #Amazon.
Considering the legal protections disabled & impaired people have in most of the developed world, why doesn't there seem to be any legal actions pushing back on CAPTCHAs? Even gov. sanctioned public services are imposing #CAPTCHA with reckless disregard.
It warms my heart to see people posting dirt on #Amazon on prime day. I hope that becomes a tradition.
Every toot has "language: en" or "language: de", etc. in the metadata that comes with it, so do any #Mastodon clients use translate.fedilab.app to translate into language of choice?

Amazon is destroying millions of items of unsold stock in one of its UK warehouses every year, an ITV News investigation has uncovered. Many of the products - including smart TVs and laptops - are often new and unused.
@h_tejas but because it's not legally classified as an investment, Amazon dodges the accountability they would have had they cheated real investors.
@h_tejas Here's what bothers me about what #Amazon did to that guy: when he bought the AI camera he wasn't strictly a consumer, he was also an investor in the sense that he was betting that Amazon's product would succeed & he had his own skin in the game. When Amazon cannabalized their own successful product to enhance another product, they stiffed their investor/customer.

I've noticed that when BBB handles a complaint for an accredited business, BBB sides w/the business almost unconditionally & suppresses complaints from public view. So i'm thinking it's not a good idea to trust #BBB accredited A+ businesses when compared to non-accredited A+ businesses. Non-accredited implies that they actually have to work for their rating b/c they don't bribe the BBB.
@Apolyon_LMR If DDG is listening, I would appreciate a search directive that makes it filter out cloudflare sites.
Cloudflare results are useless to me anyway, because they look like this...
@josias This article claimed in 2019 that Cloudflare had 34.55% of the CDN market (french): https://web.archive.org/web/www.zdnet.fr/actualites/quand-cloudflare-begaie-internet-trebuche-39887031.htm If that's true, then it probably has less than 34% of the whole web regardless of CDNs, even with 2 years of growth.
@josias Sorry folks, I was wrong about the 34% figure. That's just the ratio of *gaming* sites that use #Cloudflare. The global count is underway and hopefully will be released soon.
