@lightweight It's disturbing that the #FrightfulFive excludes #Cloudflare. It's easy to give up Apple & Google compared to CF. A boycott on CF would mean giving up the right to vote for Americans in 10% of the country. How many other tech giants stand in the way of something as basic and essential as voting in elections?
I've just worked out how to OCR a color doc: use pdf2djvu twice (once to create a mono doc, once for a color doc); run ocrodjvu on the mono doc w/the --save-script option. Use djvused to run the script on the color djvu file (you'll probably have to hack the script to change the "select" page refs). That's it.. throw away the mono version.

#InternetArchive has been down most of the day now. For Tor users who refuse to connect to #Cloudflare sites that means ~34% of the web is unreachable.
Roger Waters reads an email live at a Free Assange event from zuckerberg asking to use Another Brick in the Wall song in ads.
His simple answer is "Fuck you!"

""Fuck off!": says Pink Floydâs @rogerwaters to Mark Zuckerberg.
After being offered "a large amount of money" to allow the use of âAnother Brick in the Wallâ to promote Instagram & Facebook.
Speaking at another âFree Assangeâ forum."
@datenschutzratgeber to say "A search engine should not filter ANY sites" grossly misunderstands the purpose of a search engine. If a search were to return the whole index known to the engine, you would learn very quickly the value of filtering search results. Filtering is the core activity of what search engines do.
#Cloudflare has now surpassed MitMing *1/3rd* of the world's websites, controlling a staggering 34%. And yet privacy seekers naively continue to use so-called "privacy focused" search engines like #DuckDuckGo, which neglects to filter out Cloudflare sites from the results.
#Siteground redirects #Tor users to a ".well-known/captcha" link using "meta http-equiv" in the body instead of a normal 301/302 server redirect & instead of giving a 403 status, it gives a 200. E.g., run this:
curl --ssl --socks4a 127.0.0.1:9050 -L -w $'\n''(effective URL => "%{url_effective}")' 'https://www.samsonbanking.com/'
It seems they are trying to conceal their detection of bots from bots. But it's just another thing for the bot to check.
Is this an example of #securityByObscurity?
I'm glad I never bought an #airFryer.. just pulled a working one out of the trash, which apparently someone tossed because it reached a level of dirtyness. It seems the scam with air fryers is that consumers are forced to treat them as disposable.
just *one* webpage becomes non-responsive in #UngoogledChromium, and a pop-up appears offering to kill all 20+ tabs, or none. WTF, is #Chromium really the most popular browser from one of the top 20 biggest tech companies in the world, which claims to have truly "sandboxed" each tab in isolation?
@pluralistic Not sure if youâve seen this story yet, but Microsoft is censoring images of the Tiananmen Square âtank manâ photo: https://honeypot.net/post/bing-is-censoring-tank-man-search-results/
Since DuckDuckGo uses their search backend, theyâre also affected.
Everytime I see #liberaChat spam on #Freenode, I delay signing up. I will not sign into Libera until I go a week without spam. And even thereafter, it won't be a move. it'll just be another network in parallel.

So here's a mystery: this website does not have #Cloudflare headers, but it uses an IP address that is owned by cloudflare: volkswagen-vans-online-auctions.co.uk Anyone know what is going on there? Are they somehow using CF for hosting but not for proxying?
#GMail is harmful to e-mail ecosystem; its antispam blocking policy matches too many valid messages as spam.
It blocked LastPass email leak warning email, because it contained "a link" to a leaked site.
It blocked an e-mail from goverment agency addressed directly to me.
It discriminates all non-gmail servers, and it's pretty much impossible to own a private SMTP server these days, because GMail will classify everything as spam.
It's not how e-mail should work.
Consider dropping GMail.
