@Coneng @jrswab The most privacy-respecting #searchEngine is currently #Ss, and it gives guite good results despite 30%+ sites having to be filtered out (privacy-offensive Cloudflare sites). We need more people using it. If no one uses Ss, there will be no control on #Cloudflare's growth, which will ultimately lead to bad results in the future.

Wanting to find out which remnants of the article about #OLPC we can piece back together... namely how #billgates - through his fake 'charity' -- attacked the charity because it did not use #Microsoft #Windows

The Electronic Privacy Information Center () is looking to hire someone who can support 365 & & who "is passionate about privacy and data protection". LOL. epic.org/epic/jobs.html#global

It would be great if donors would make their donations conditional on EFF putting as much effort fighting as they do .

As Tor users become increasingly marginalized (proportional to the growth of ), there is a tiny community within the Tor community who is even more acutely marginized: Tor users who are ethical enough to avoid Cloudflare sites rather than just using as a circumvention. & are on the wrong side of this as they look the other way.

Going more private has a lot of old school attitude.

Don't use credit cards, use cash (of course no Apple Pay etc.). Don't use google maps, learn where you need to go and figure it out like you did a decade ago. Don't listen to streaming music, listen to music you downloaded.

What would you do if there was no big tech companies to hold your hand? Will you be lost?

@redstarfish @vesperto Just to give an idea of how persersely insidious schools have gotten, at #RUC students are forced by their peers to obtain & use a #Google account, which requires giving Google a mobile phone#. Should a student at a tax-funded *public* school be excluded from education for not having a mobile phone? Students without #Facebook are excuded from some classes & class announcements.

How can we call regular companies not to use #cloudflare or not to ban #tor exit nodes if entities which claim that they are super #privacy oriented use this word only because of its hype.
#Session - getsession.org - cloudflare.
#pinephone - they confirmed that privacy is only a nice byproduct(sic!). You cannot use #tor to sign up in their forum. You cannot connect to their #IRC using #tor.

We are just Don Quixotes. Saaaad.

How sweeping is California's vehicle surveillance dragnet?

We crunched the numbers:

82 law enforcement agencies collectively scanned more than 1-billion license plates in 2019.

Only 0.1% of the data was relevant to an active public safety interest.

@TheGuardian I heard talk briefly about recently, and was quite surprized by what I heard. Even though he was a warmongering scumbag who made jokes about the soldiers lives he sacrificed, his view on immigration was ironically empathetic & sensible, nothing like other me-first US republicans/nationalists.

@nytpu For me, one of the greatest aspect of #gemini is that it is made to focus on content.
No monetization around ads and tracking create a space where people can focus on what they want to read and/or write about, in a non-intrusive and non-distracting access to content…

@ScottMortimer "In cybersecurity, trust is hard to win and easy to lose" <= we should strive for that but sometimes it's not reality. E.g. #DuckDuckGo is an example of an inversion of that where #DDG has violated their own privacy policy several times & given Microsoft a view of people's searches, yet their trust remains paradoxically unshakable. techrights.org/2021/03/15/duck

Went into *two* restaurant+bars recently & was told "we have no paper menus due to COVID; use your phone to get the web menu". It's disturbing that a B&M business just assumes everyone has a smartphone & they're willing to marginalize those who do not. One of the bars outsourced to a site that outsourced to so the online menu discriminated further against Tor users.

Facial recognition can be biased, innacurate and invasive and yet it's creeping into our daily lives a little more every day. It's time the EU made the law clear and banned biometric mass surveillance
