@cwebber @kravietz It's interesting to note that the attorney general is taking action on this. Not all AGs are motivated. Many are deadbeats who only become an AG to pad their CV for another gig, like running for governor. When you complain to those AGs, they might may a record of it but generally don't act. So it's good to know that the AZ AG might be a good office to expose privacy abuses to.

@rysiek @tecc A down moment does not count as "breaking the Internet". But when a CDN's policy causes it to non-stop deny service to various classes of users, like does, that is most certainly "breaking the Internet". Now get the spotlight off Fastly and put it back on Cloudflare where it belongs.

Just published Google lawsuit evidence indicates that like always retained users' location data, even if disabled in user interface, to the extent that its own employees flashed LineageOS on their phones to avoid tracking. Full thread on twitter.com/jason_kint/status/

@murph There's a lot to unpack here. It is *because* of high market share that free-world-hostile options have poured more resources into non-free software. Shifting the same resources to free sw yields better results b/c reuse trades duplication of effort is traded for more features & quality. Financing non-free sw is like renting instead of owning; the cost is a waste in the long run.

@jlhertel @tomasino @rysiek Is this just a legal hack for fairuseify to build up a library of unlicensed music?

@snikket_im The f-droid app requires access to the device's IMEI number. Why does it need that?

@thor @thor i simply clicked "get app". From there, I expected them to tell me what's available. They demand a phone number which will then receive a text, so they're excluding people who don't have a SIM chip before they can even see what's on offer.

@thor @thor what they require for establishing an account is separate from what they require for downloading software. It's unacceptable to deny people the download link until they supply information. If they think they're getting any security out of a download precondition, then I have zero confidence in them securing my money. A criminal could use a pinger phone to get the app download link

@thor @thor If you go to revolut.com and click "get app", you're forced to supply a phone number just to get a download link for the app, which presumeably will be in 's walled garden. Not sure why they throw shenanigans these shenanigans in ppls face but the demand for phone number stopped me from even getting the app.

@alcinnz ah, i didn't know Wozniak left Apple.. for some reason I thought he took over after Jobs, but well.. bad memory

@alcinnz interesting considering recently sued the contractor they paid to dispose of Apple products for refurbishing them instead -- and still pressed the case when the contractor said it was rogue employees, not a company directive.

@Xantulon You might find this page useful: fedisus.dokku.hackr.org/ It tracks which nodes are blocking other nodes. Caveat: I think it's incomplete.

@clacke @kensanata @tindall If all pleroma clients were hypothetically unjustifiably heavy, then you'd be doing a svc to point it out to the climate activists.

@tindall @kensanata @clacke so i understand, are you saying oil pipeline protesters are pro-environment while pleroma is resource intensive? Pleroma's stock web client is quite heavy but 3rd party apps are probably lean enough to make it moot. docs-develop.pleroma.social/ba

@ademalsasa @Christian I never use the /private/ visibility, but if I had a use for that visibility level then i think your idea would be more useful than the current private.

@deutrino @kensanata @tindall yeah, I suppose. Activism is your duty, but style of activism may differ. We need all styles/modes of activism in play, but if your opponent (or audience) doesn't feel shame in their unethical actions then you've taken an approach that's ultimately ineffective & non-impactful.

@kensanata @tindall @deutrino I just have to accept those who oppose activism itself as high hanging fruit. It's probably not worthwhile to try to reach them.

@deutrino @tindall @kensanata there's no shame in shaming unethical conduct. It's your ethical duty in fact. "Activism is my duty for living on this planet." -- Alice Walker. The state of things has gotten where it is due to apathy, which is a barrier to progress.

@yogthos ah yeah, aka the classic 90 dollar hammer scenario. Could be.
