@lord @TheOuterLinux #Libera uses MS for web hosting & they've jailed their web gateway in #cloudflare. #OFTC forces you to solve a Google #reCAPTCHA (thus #nonfreesoftware) to get a cloak -- & some channels (e.g. #gnucash) force you to register before you have a voice. So bad options all around.

@iron_bug @alien23 and the stats confirm this. But I also have to say that while most people on the basis of a relatively poor track record on safety, my primary reason for boycotting is the right wing politics culminating into support. is a bad company to support from an ethical standpoint.

@alien23 @iron_bug The Boeing enterprise is very different from the Airbus enterprise. As someone who worked in the aviation industry on both sides of the pond I can say with certainty that the US does calculations the incorporate the price tag they put on life. Europeans don't do that. The EU safety admins I've had to deal with oppose the calculation & if there's a problem or excessive risk, they fix

As far as I can tell, #Fetchmail v6.4.0 is just a downgrade. People might want to pin an older version.

Another went down. That company is an supporter of right wing politics and they continue to have safety issues because conservatives don't put safety above profit. People need to learn to stop getting on Boeing aircraft.

@bojkotiMalbona @fsf So if I want to attend the #FSF Directory meeting on Friday using a web browser, I must execute non-free javascript as a precondition? That's so fucked up. #hypocrisy noted.

@Mojeek @werwolf i installed and quite liked it. But it looks like i have to ditch it since it doesn't do well with dual displays. The default resolution was lower than the native resolution of my LCD. When I increase it in xorg configs, the two frames overlap and mirror part of the other frame. So I guess i'll have to move to

@NatCor @nwalfield @yunohost @rysiek the problem is not crypto. I have gpg & s/mime setup. The problem is transmission -- mail servers refusing legit mail on the sole basis of IP address.

@lord @liberachat Avoid .chat's web chat folks-- it's a privacy abusing site with exclusive access restrictions (so it's a ).

I continue to find bugs that I can't report because the mail server for bugs blocks my IP, and salsa.debian.org forces a

Choosing a communications platform based on where the people are is sadly a bad idea because the masses do not make smart decisions. Choose the platform that has the proper privacy-respecting technology and policies. Let the smart ones migrate.

@selea @yunohost @nwalfield @rysiek @parisni Because it's not broken. A working centralized solution like Wire is better in more situations than a broken decentralized solution (email). Of course if you can find a viable working decentralized option for the case at hand, that's your answer. But email is mostly broken notwithstanding non-MACFANG corner cases.

@parisni @rysiek @nwalfield @yunohost @strypey I've not heard of until now. Thanks for mentioning it. It's on fdroid and superficially I see no issues, so I should take a deeper look at that.

@strypey @yunohost @nwalfield @rysiek @parisni Wire has shortcomings for sure. XMPP is great for advanced users. Matrix caters for novices IIUC but has a role that screams run away. .io is a site. It's avoidable (thanks fdroid!) but it's a big red flag that the people behind it are not on the ball & so it should be approached w/great caution b/c incompetency can manifest in other ways.
