@vesperto @altlink 1st of all it's normal for Mastodon admins to configure user accts to follow some accounts by default. Also, admins make their own rules for their server and if you don't like it, you go elsewhere. It's not overstepping because admins control the quality of msgs coming from their server. Think of it like an anti-spam policy.

@altlink Would be really noble of any admins to set all their users' accounts to follow @altlink by default.

This is what it looks like when an moderator on decides for everyone that the channel is "moving to libera.chat". When attempting to rejoin, it redirects to some wikimedia channel.

So far as a regular user I've not experienced any hostility from Andrew Lee, only his opponents.

@hund Sorry, i just realized you were more aware of things than I thought (sloppy speed reading on my part). If you've configured it to use lynx, then I guess you just need to add the -list_inline switch.

@hund if you hit "v" on the msg, mutt will list the MIME parts. If there is a text/plain included, mutt shows that by default. If there is only a text/html part & no text/plain, then mutt will automatically filter with something like w3m. You might want to switch w3m to "lynx -list_inline".

@hund neomutt does not group URLs at the bottom of the msg, at least not my version. It shows the raw text mostly as-is. I think your 1st example is probably a msg with text/html MIME type that mutt filtered with w3m or the like. When mutt shows an URL, it's often so long that mutt wraps it and adds a "+" where the link wraps which ruins copy-paste. Urlview/urlscan fixes that.

@mxtthxw @pox also has some anti-consumer tendencies: makes printers that produce & they collect data about what you print: robertheaton.com/2019/09/15/hp, & HP was caught sabotaging printers that used non-HP ink: npr.org/2021/02/17/968704526/w

@pox @mxtthxw isn't just a printer maker, they do defense contracting for the Israeli military and they serve the Gaza strip blockade directly. HP also has contracts with , they sponsor , they are a member, & they sponsored both & .

@pox I boycott the greater of evils for every transaction. So if the shortlist is too long after eliminating all brand-specific boycotts, regions indeed come into play, in which case I boycott , , & pro-forced-birth states ( ). I patronize the lesser of evils.

@krock boycotting seems to be the easiest thing we can do as individuals, but else do you have in mind? Americans can vote against US politicians who support Israel's oppression & expanding colonization, but that's a bit of a futile effort in a 2 party system. All the power is on the side of oppression.

@krock my boycotts go deep indeed. I do not have mobile phone service and I already boycott MACFANG for other reasons. I also boycott AT&T especially because they are an member (they finance extreme rt wing politics in the US, such as climate denial). But note that Motorola and HP directly support Israeli military (HP has a hand in the gaza blockade & motorola supplies them)

@greenfediverse that website times out for me. Are they dropping Tor packets?

Anyone not already boycotting : now is a good time to start. That means boycotting &

@t0k thanks for the tip. I used to use a "nuke anything" plugin and that sounds similar.

@t0k what's eye-opening for me is that as uMatrix defaults to trusting 1st party javascript (which most users probably accept), but in the case of archive.org all 3rd party js gets repackaged as 1st party. i guess i'll setup uMatrix to refuse all js from archive.org

@t0k is trying to be clever. Notice that if you go to last year's report (ran.org/bankingonclimatechaos2) it interrupts with "don't you want the most recent report?" They're imposing CF JS to intercept visits to old docs. It's a shame they use js for that.
