@elohim@mastodon.online It's a privacy thing. Some people use for privacy, but it turns out to be a bad option.

The one thing I miss from : when a status includes nothing other than a link to another status, the text of the referenced status also appears in the new status. Thus, it's possible get the text of an existing status into another thread (whether the referenced msg in mine or someone else's) w/out requiring a visit. devs, plz consider this enhancement request.

Someone plz clear up something about the mstdn.foxfam.club node. Anything tied to or gives me chills because it wreaks of right-wing propaganda & fear-mongering that masquerades as "news". Conservative thinking is also reflected by mstdn.foxfam.club blocking Tor. Yet it seems to be mostly bots/mirrors of twtr, not all rt-wing people. Any humans there?

I have more appreciation for "Wanted Dead or Alive" by #MightySparrow after getting some history on #Grenada (invidious.fdn.fr/watch?v=7z-Ax). I wonder if any high school history teachers have figured out how to use music to engage students.

@kensanata @focus404 Nice! Does your process involve cooking the soybeans in the plastic mold to semi-sterilize it before innoculating with fungus? If so, what temp can that plasic handle? I think I would be tempted to make one that fits in an electric pressure cooker that has a yogurt function. e.g. cook at high temp, open & innoculate, seal back up and use yogurt setting. Would that work?

@strypey Ah, i was fooled b/c i thought you meant people were adding electric motors to junkers (which you would pull out of the dump), not the trucks that bring trash to the dump. Guess I needed an NZ to US translator.

It's one thing if a private service hires another private service. If there are problems, customers can boycott. But when a *public* goverment service uses a private service that restricts access and excludes a segment of the public, it's tyranny. A private corporation should not have the power to control who can access a public resource.

Considering all the different varients in play, I wonder if it makes sense for each member of a household to get a different vaccine. Intuitively it seems that if one of the vaccines doesn't handle one of the variants well, then wouldn't it be less likely spread within the household if everyone has a different vaccine?

Majority of the European Parliament welcomes the Commission's intention to oblige e-mail, messaging and chat providers to search all private messages for allegedly illegal material and report to the police (#chatcontrol) by 580:76:37.

@hook54321 thanks for the feedback. Not all Amazon results have that, some take a form that looks like a search query. If it's true that's a product id, then it's unclear to me how an Amazon purchase leads to a DDG commission.

also perversely tagged it as "spam" to appear consistent with bot error, so even the bot can dodge accountability of intent. They added a "speculative" keyword to misrepresent the content.

Looks like has managed to coerce to a critical post that made look bad: old.reddit.com/r/privacy/comme Notice they claim an automated bot did the censoring to duck accountability.

if we remove the "dp/B0EIE34K7C" that puts at the end of Amazon links, it breaks the link. So users are forced to trust the data encoded in that unpredictable token

@ThreeBadgersInATrenchcoat that's like saying don't vote in elections because a vote carries so little power on it's own. I'm well aware that my Paypal boycott will not bring down PP. Yet it still brings 3 certain benefits: 1) I remove myself from being part of the problem 2) My sensitive data isn't shared with 600 companies 3) PP will not steal my money again

@walter these are decent: search.disroot.org, openworlds.info, metasearch.nl, searx.everdot.org. yacy.noisytoot.org is also worth a look.

@ThreeBadgersInATrenchcoat I'm not flexible on the boycott. PP took money from me, and they share data with 600 companies (git.disroot.org/cyberMonk/libe). I recently wanted to buy a particular ebike motor, and the sole vendor only accepts Paypal. I walked. I decided to stay with a push bike because I won't go near Paypal.

@blueberry @sotolf @lig is hosted by & also uses MS for Bing searches, so MS can see both your IP and your search query. I wouldn't call that making the partnerships "in a privacy-respecting way".

@koherecoWatchdog Web searching for manuals is a disaster too because there are dozens of walled gardens & 'd sites. Hard to find a BS-free site to download manuals from.

resist1984 boosted

Dear #iFixIt, you suck. You claim to have over 70,000 manuals. Where are they? Unless enabling javascript for a dozen different 3rd parties wasn't enough, the manuals are not browsable. I've got manuals to share, but there is no mechanism to upload them. And even if there was, it wouldn't be worth the trouble because the manuals are out of reach anyway.
