@freetechproject #Manjaro relies on #Amazon to distribute its user guide (osdn.net). It's not an exclusivity problem but some would have ethical objections to that.
#KDEneon is #ubuntu-based, which means it supports PPAs (not good). It'd be better if it were based directly on Debian to encourage apps to become official #Debian & enrichen support of the OS with higher QA standards.
I've not used either distro so I didn't vote.
@freetechproject #LinuxMint shouldn't even be on the shortlist for your organization because most of the core documentation is jailed in a walled garden of exclusive access. #ReadTheDocs is a #CloudFlare site & it blocks me.
@freetechproject
#Debian has higher standards of quality & higher standards of software freedom than #elementaryOS. The ElementaryOS project also relies on #CloudFlare which proliferates exclusivity.
@kensanata the guide says "Remove the memory and SIM cards, if possible. Since in many cases your data is stored on these". I think we can disregard the comment about RAM. Not sure why intel would think RAM stores data when powered off.
@kensanata water doesn't harm most electronics so long as there is no power going through the system. The best move would have been to pull the battery and avoid using it until it's bone-dry.
@Talkless You might want to reference this or parts thereof in the #CloudFlare fight: https://git.disroot.org/cyberMonk/liberethos_paradigm/src/branch/master/rap_sheets/cloudflare.md
@Talkless #lightningnetworkstores & #cryptwerk are also #CloudFlare sites, so they are useless to me.
@Talkless oh shit, no it doesn't. I just realized #bitrefill is a #CloudFlare site. I boycott CF, which tends to put many cryptocurrency options out of reach. Most exchangers use CF.
@Talkless i'm glad you mentioned bitrefill.com.. that seems to open up some options.
@Talkless Things will improve when cryptocurrency becomes more available. Kind of. It's a catch22 because visa is promoting cryptocurrency themselves because they believe it will help them eliminate cash.
@Talkless My #boycott on #Amazon, #walmart, & #paypal really narrows options to start with. So in the end my question still stands. Note that I also boycott #visa & #mastercard because they are members of the #BetterThanCashAlliance, and I boycott #AmEx b/c it's an #ALEC member. So short of cryptocurrency that leaves #discovercard.
@Talkless No chance I'll boycott fiat. There is a #WarOnCash (read: war on privacy). To fight that war on the side of privacy, I favor cash notes whenever possible & boycott cashless b&m shops. Cash notes have more privacy than the cryptocurrencies. Online payment is tricky. Cryptocurrency is best in that case, but hard to get & acceptance is low.
When an online merchant accepts #Paypal or credit card, is Paypal still in the loop if credit card is used? I ask because I #boycottPaypal, & wonder if I should also avoid using a CC at PP-accepting merchants.
@miklo @Br0m3x @rysiek @nintendh03s that's because dev.lemmy.ml became lemmy.ml. Use this link: https://lemmy.ml/post/31321. And note also that there's a part 2 and part 3 at the bottom of the post.
@Br0m3x @rysiek @nintendh03s @miklo ..or this more upstream repo: https://git.sdf.org/resistance/stop_cloudflare
@miklo @nintendh03s @rysiek @Br0m3x indeed a hall of shame would be useful. There is one for some of the privacy advice sites here, but CloudFlare isn't covered: https://lemmy.ml/post/31487 If anyone wants to start a list of CF-using pro-privacy hypocrits, this repo would welcome that effort: https://codeberg.org/themusicgod1/cloudflare-tor
@rysiek @nintendh03s It's interesting to also note that #CloudFlare claims in their FaQ that "you don't have to" trust them: https://web.archive.org/web/20180926003344/https://blog.cloudflare.com/cloudflare-onion-service/#why-should-i-trust-cloudflare Yet they see all HTTPS traffic in the clear. So the fact that they lie about the need for trust is in itself cause for distrust.
