@eff well, it's also not good that they use actblue.com for credit cards, which blocks Tor.

@eff But they still have work to do in-house. They need to get the & links off their public website, and they need to ditch all the js. Someone who attends the conference should mention this to them.

@eff I have to say I'm impressed-- the stopspying.org website does not rely on CloudFlare or AWS & they don't accept (a privacy abuse vector that most projects sell their soul to). They give an address to mail checks, so donors can cut out as many data brokers in the middle as possible.

@ademalsasa @tshrinivasan @libreoffice Are these quite young students? If we're dealing with high school or university students, I'd say is better suited. If these are younger students, then LibreOffice is probably a good idea. In any case, it's good to hear that MS Word is banned.

@ademalsasa @libreoffice @tshrinivasan Seems like an obvious requirement. Who would try to use MS Word for a class where LibreOffice is the topic?

@be @zeh @jgoerzen actually it does, if he's posturing as an authority on privacy. It shows he's either not committed to his own cause or incompetent in the discapline.

@Mr_Teatime @zeh @jgoerzen It occurs to me that they could theoretically store a hash, and then ask for the ph# again at acct recovery time, then compare the hashes. But I don't give OWS the benefit of the doubt considering how they push users into Google Playstore & claim it's safer than the APK download which they hide. It's hard to trust OWS anytime trust is needed.

@Coffee I wonder if @kensanata is aware of this.. it could be the same bug as this one: alexschroeder.ch/software/Post I'm not sure if it's an IRC limit or a limit of the plugin.

@Coffee i didn't know there was an image description feature. Is there a field for that in the GUI web client? The -mastodon plugin does not show the description automatically, but if I use the "info" command to dump all status details, it appears there, but it's truncated because it exceeds IRC line limits & the plugin isn't designed to break one field into multiple lines.

@Coffee I wonder if it would be useful for a client would detect msg limits, and give you the option to either post in parts, or automatically do an imagemagick trick

@Coffee one option would be to render the text as a PNG using and post that (but it would have inconvenienced me since I use a non-GUI client). I think some nodes have bigger limits.

@Coffee i really need to read that book sometime, instead of just living in it

@woozle i've been doing the same.. feeding data into emacs org-mode docs until the data can manifest into a giant bombshell of compelling influence

Consumers are a sleeping giant; an untapped power to demand better from tech giants, if only we had the discipline to boycott unacceptible options. If only we had the constitution to refuse injustices & prioritize the greater good above selfish short-term desires.

"When we did our most recent poll, we saw that 82% of consumers are very concerned about their privacy online." --Marta Tellado (Consumer Reports CEO) thirteen.org/openmind/science/

@mathias @jgoerzen @zeh i think if they are only advertising the premium accounts, then that free trial is probably just for the premium packages. The gratis service is indefinite AFAIK.

@mathias @jgoerzen @zeh yeah that's the one. Perhaps the "pricing" page is neglecting to mention that there is a gratis option. If you install the app you can probably create a gratis acct. You'll have to give an email address but disposable addresses were accepted when I registered.

@mathias @jgoerzen @zeh Is Wire no longer gratis? I didn't pay anything for my Wire account. A couple months ago I got someone to start using it and I think they would have complained to me if it had a cost.
