@torproject whoever you hire, plz make sure they address the censorship problem in the channel on the network, where people get kicked out for mentioning flaws in .

Americans aren't even required to have a driver's license, so how can it be required to have one to obtain a credit report?

@yerinalexey @LemmyDev @imattau If anyone knows of censorship beyond spam (i.e. censorship of civially presented ideas) at plz mention it here. If no issues turn up I'll create an acct there. BTW, there is also this page for tracking instances: linuxreviews.org/Lemmy

@imattau @LemmyDev @yerinalexey The dev instance (lemmy.ml) demonstrates rampant abuse of power through profoundly excessive . How is .ml? It looks communist, which in principle I have no real objection but i don't want to invest time there if it has the same pwr abusing censorship we see at .ml.

@dublinux @wikileaks Trump likes to pardon enemies of his enemies regardless of the offense. Pardoning Assange would likely piss off the Clintons b/c IIRC wikileaks had a role in leaking or exposing Hillary's emails. So I think Trump will pardon Assange for the wrong reasons, but it's the right move nonetheless.

@flav @strikersan @Tutanota PS should be avoided anyway. I suppose your comment is more about motivation. I myself wouldn't use or WhatsApp. I tell ppl how to reach me on Wire or Jami or Briar. If they're unwilling then they are unwilling to stay in touch as far as I'm concerned. It's a bad idea for the burden of change to be on the more ethical/secure party.

@gerowen Dryers are a luxury. Just use a clothes line - better for the environment.

@vesperto i didn't realize it was that old. So I suppose "homama" predates the slang that makes that sound silly.

@Utgardloki @strikersan @Tutanota At the end of the talk, the DDG rep ducked out without taking questions-- to dodge the criticism of what they did.

@Tutanota @strikersan @Utgardloki organizers should be ashamed for letting misappropriate a FOSDEM time slot for commercial gain

@strikersan @Tutanota Glad to hear that! The best search engine I've found for privacy is based on Searx. It had to be modified though b/c searx does not filter out sites. The improved fork has not been publically shared yet.

"The planet is facing a “ghastly future of mass extinction, declining health and climate-disruption upheavals” that threaten human survival because of ignorance and inaction, according to an international group of scientists (...)."

@Tutanota @strikersan managed to hijack a room at to advertize for DDG. They have a phone app, which was just used as an excuse to get the room which then formed the basis of their pitch. has a truly server, but in the end it's just s/w. There are good searx nodes & there are bad searx nodes (which use ).

@XRBerlin @PaulaToThePeople Inaction is the more hopeless battle. E.g. liberals in California know that fossil fuels are a big problem, yet they protest against democratic leaders who try to impose a high gas tax. The hypocrisy is killer. If CA dems won't accept a gas tax to the point of voting leaders of their own party out of power, there's a big problem.

@PaulaToThePeople @XRBerlin I would add that we need to distinguish willful ignorance from manufactured ignorance. That is, manufactured ignorance is the effect of false science from team climate denial, where ppl are doing their duty to be informed but getting misinfo. Ppl who run away from info b/c they don't want the responsibility that comes with knowledge- that's willful ignorance.
