Report: Monsanto paid Google to bury unfavorable news" class="next-head

Monsanto had a spreadsheet of 23 specific steps it was taking to spin the news cycle in a more favorable direction." class="next-head

for "humanitarian" is "homama". IIUC, this is a meticulously designed language that's supposed to be mindful of other latin-based languages.

Great news: someone has spotted empty cardboard boxes (for moving) being delivered to the .

@eff There should be a specific point of contact for this issue, and ideally that PoC should be asking for detailed /reports/ on privacy issues, not so much asking for questions. Who is tracking the instances of privacy abuse? There should be metrics collected.

@eff high schools are violating in countless ways and the US DOE disregards complaints on FERPA issues. What can the EFF do? I doubt the EFF will do what needs to be done (that is, to sue the US DoE). That page says to contact events@eff.org for questions. That's a Outlook mailbox that shouldn't be used & the address is generic.

@laura @aral The university fight is more about getting students to stop clinging to oppressive technology. It seems like that should be easy but that crowd has already been ruined and they're already set in their ways. Some of them don't want learning linux to compete for their attention.

@aral @laura The k-12 fight is the most difficult. If a parent in the US claims that the school forcing usage is a violation of the students privacy rights, the school and the dept. of education simply ignores them. Even if they could be convincing, the cost of training teachers to do it right competes for a scarce resource: money.

@laura @aral This battle is very different at universities than at k-12 schools. At k-12 schools, the admins & low-tech teachers /push/ onto students in the most imposing way. The problem is wholly with the staff. In universities it's the complete opposite. It's mostly the students who push for & the staff simply accommodates.

@IzzyOnDroid @mupan You might expect the credit union that is endorsed to be doing something that respects your freedom, but no, they're no different than other CUs. They outsource the app which ends up being the same proprietary Google playstore that other banks use only with a different skin, and custom logos

@mupan @IzzyOnDroid In the US, banks don't follow standards. They do what they want. You would think that's a recipe for innovation, but no, they basically just mirror what the bigger banks are doing, which is totally bent on walled gardens w/propietary UIs. There is an extreme aversion for risk in US banking. No bank wants to try something that's different that hasn't been done before.

@janssens_bart so it's a crapshoot whether you'll be able to see a msg originating from another instance. You're only guaranteed to see local msgs.

@janssens_bart just the instance, but it includes msgs that happen to be stored on the instance from another instance

@bazurk@mastodon.online Ok but we need not be passive. We need to compile a list of political donors to all 147 republicans with tracability to goods & services to . Pharmacy is one to boycott, listed on the Trump watchdog site.

@torproject @msaunders @realcaseyrollins @dsfgs Think about users of the physical security app , where users have to transcribe the onion address from their phone to their desktop. Onion v3 will be hell for those users.

@dsfgs @realcaseyrollins @msaunders @torproject Suppose I don't need anonymity as a host, and suppose impersonation isn't in my threat model? Maybe I have an onion address to serve Tor users in a way that doesn't burden the exit nodes, or because I simply don't want the cost of a domain name? I should be able to serve Tor users with v2 address.

@dublinux @libreture The site says "Book files are NEVER shared with others." What if I'm an author, and want to CC license the work for gratis distribution?
