@marc0janssen @nikolal @techit Perhaps in the 1940s you could call opposition to racism "extremism", but in 2020 it's mainstream to oppose racist ideologies. It's mainstream to accept the science on climate change. It's climate denial and white nationalism that require propaganda.
@hyperfocal @Tommy @Wetrix I was on #Twitter as a liberal activist until I got locked out. I dug up dirt on tech giants and used twtr to expose it. Twtr basically said "we think you're a robot, give us your phone number". I had no SMS-capable ph# to give them, so they locked my acct & suppressed my whole history of posts.
@hyperfocal @Wetrix @Tommy Actually #twitter's political bias comes from right wing propaganda as a Trump supporter is in control, which is much worse than you suggest. http://kgg2m7yk5aybusll.onion/watch?v=glPtEPS02Y4 https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2020/feb/29/paul-singer-elliott-management-twitter-jack-dorsey
@bthylafh @Horizon_Innovations @protonmail @Tutanota @hyploma IIRC, elude.in is one of the more versatile ones. It can send email from elude.in to both clearnet & onion recipients, it can receive email via onion or clearnet (you have two address domains), and the UI is accessible by either onion or clearnet. Onionmail may be the same, but most services have on limitation or another.
@hyploma @Tutanota @protonmail @Horizon_Innovations @bthylafh indeed. Most clearnet services are incapable of sending mail to #onion email addresses. Even some onion email services do not accept or send onion mail. And some onion email services can't email clearnet, while others can (but some of those can't put a clearnet reply address in the header).
#Privacy is like guns, helmets, and condoms. Better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.
@diabola @ItsJenNotGabby @onepict Cancel culture helps bad ideas die naturally and that's a good thing. And when celebs lose their megaphone, that's not #censorship, it's an adjustment that puts their voice down at the level of everyone else w/out prestige.
@onepict @ItsJenNotGabby @diabola "Accountability is not censorship." Spot on. Those on the receiving end of #cancelCulture expect to retain their megaphone, their voice with widespread exposure even when they say stupid shit. The whole principle of #FreeSpeech is that good ideas are carried as far as they're worth & bad ideas naturally fall under their own dead weight.
@strypey Found this gem: https://blog.soykaf.com/post/gopher-support-in-pleroma/ Pleroma brings my browser to its knees. I didn't realize gopher was an option.
Is @protonmail or @Tutanota capable of sending email to *.onion email addresses?
@crispr i think it's normal & expected in an election year for the Russians (who are campaigning in the US for an orange man).
@craigmaloney @mdhughes The novelty of the bang! notation & DDG itself died with me when #DDG's evils began to surface (https://dev.lemmy.ml/post/31321). But I've since heard that the bang! shortcuts have been built into browsers (iow, ppl need not feed DDG to use them), and there are searx instances that scrape DDG.
@strypey Very glad to hear of this project. I was considering running a gopher server precisely to cut j/s out, but then I guess there's no TLS. #Gemini is the answer. Imagine if a privacy-centric search engine were to then start giving higher rankings to gemini sites -- it could actually start to kill off the shit websites we're all trapped into seeing to some extent.
#TIL about Project Gemini, a new internet publishing protocol that tries to take the best from both Gopher and the web protocols:

@wend @Horizon_Innovations the problem is not needing an account. The problem is needing an account on an *exclusive* host that is not open to the public, which treats Tor users with hostility. The #Codeberg repo is open to all; the #Github repo is not.
Workaround: hack the URL, wildcard the timestamp. E.g. https://web.archive.org/web/*/www... (works sometimes)
seems to be a #bug with /some/ web pages. Bug is at least 5 yrs old: https://archive.org/post/1028888/wayback-machine-not-archiving-anything
I've been getting trapped in #InternetArchive #WaybackMachine loops a lot lately, when trying to archive a new webpage. Is this happening to others or just me? And the onion site for #Archive.org is completely down.
@fireglow when i first tried it, it was lousy. But then the next time i used more water and probably more conditioner.. really lathered it up and it worked.
@fireglow maybe switch to conditioner - it can substitute for shaving cream
