@sl1200@masto.nixnet.xyz @markosaric it's also worth noting that google is trying to do business w/the #fossilfuel industry & spends money on the #climatedenial movement -- so it's inherently bad for the #environment to help #Google's bottom line in any way.
@Mojeek @markosaric great article! Degooglification is the mission of @Framasoft -- who I suggest might want to incorporate that article into their website.
@gerowen some US states have a law stating that any package that arrives in the mail that was not ordered is legally defined as a free gift. Sounds like that law needs to extend to unsolicited bill payments.
@kensanata @b I think the Carrefour brand of almond milk sold in Belgium has around ~7% almonds -- so that also debunks the claim.
@unblocked all your links are inaccessible -- blocked by #CloudFlare, which is a bit ironic for the name "unblocked"
@strypey Searxes is superior b/c not only does it avoid #CloudFlare instances, it also filters CF sites in the results. w.r.t search.disroot.org, I think I've used it in the past and after another look it seems to be a good instance. Does it do anything particularly special? I noticed no CloudFlare results in a search I just did, but perhaps I got lucky.
@strypey thanks for the suggestion. I like searx.neocities.org because it demos many of the decent searx instances. I didn't like it a few months ago when it was sending ppl to searx instances that run on #CloudFlare (glad they fixed that).
@gerowen this is the way to view that article: torsocks lynx -dump -nolist 'https://www.rawstory.com/2020/02/julian-assange-says-he-was-promised-a-trump-pardon-if-he-would-lie-about-russias-dnc-hacking/'
@gerowen when I click to say /no/ to cookies, rawstory.com redirects me to Google.
@dl @dredmorbius I think we need to evolve to a point were not only are posts scored based on reader feedback, but every post could have a per-reader score based on others who vote similarly.
@dredmorbius @dl you're describing lack of moderation coupled with poor tooling. A vast majority of moderators are corrupt, as they want their own view of the world to have an edge. Voting systems enable collective moderation - and they can be implemented in a way that nothing is censored (just folded or quarantined).
@dredmorbius @dl "If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor. If an elephant has its foot on the tail of a mouse, and you say that you are neutral, the mouse will not appreciate your neutrality." -- Desmond Tutu. Bans on political chatter effectively favor oppressors.
@dredmorbius @dl i would not say they are equally bad. Poor moderation results in corruption, injustice, and abuse of power. Lack of moderation is only bad in the sense that everyone has to do their own janitorial work but at least views get equal representation.

@dublinux @Ajz@mastodon.nl rampant censorship and shadow banning is what drove me off #Reddit. I'm actually glad to hear Reddit has decided to become a #netneutrality offender -- hopefully it drives more ppl onto #Lemmy.
Inaction is a Form of Action
The story of the no-politics diner.
And why "don't discuss politics" and tone-policing *is* political. Most especially when it limits minority and disenfranchised voices.
(This also isn't an argument for free-for-all speech. It's complicated, Peeps.)
