@JamieLBarnett @mplammers i 'd my phone without issues.. at least, without unexpected issues. No idea why you would have data loss. The only apps that should fail are those that rely on google services. OTOH I'm not a heavy phone user so I may have issues that aren't triggered. Apps should come from .

@jautero @mplammers of course it is. Google profits from , so it still profits from you even if you don't pay a dime. Data is worth more than oil now. The only way to not be part of the problem is to stop using all Google services including the gratis services.

@JamieLBarnett @mplammers I believe I'm free of Google but it's hard to answer you without knowing which service you use that you believe is irreplaceable.

@onepict @mplammers I was baffled when I heard was caught spending dark money on (theguardian.com/environment/20). I thought "why would Google finance denial? Surely a generic opposition to regulation isn't enough explanation". Now we know why.. Google has a product to sell the fossil fuel industry.

@cadadr @kensanata I would like to see pressure on employers to reduce /car/ commuting, but converting the commute to paid time for all workers is too blunt of an instrument. But suppose we impose the commute time cost on employers of sole (non-carpooling) non-handicapped car drivers? I'd probably endorse that.

@kensanata @cadadr I put it to the test & gave an ultamatim: give me part-time or I'm gone. (I left)

@cadadr @kensanata i recently worked for an employer who refused to allow anyone to work part-time b/c their daily overhead of reading e-mail and fetching coffee would be fixed while their productive time would lessen. Now imagine adding commute overhead to that same employer.

@cyberagile @theprivacyfoundation indeed. I think everyone knows it wouldn't be a temporary strike but rather a permanent . Either way, I've had my boycott on for years and I don't see the end of it.

@kensanata @cadadr the single most environmentally sound mode of transport, cycling, would be banned by the companies. And a work day would be lengthened by employers trying to reduce overhead per hour worked.

@phryk @ITwrx perhaps I should run firefox this way: "systemd-run --scope -p MemoryLimit=1G firefox"

@ITwrx @phryk sometimes I let it run its course by leaving it on overnight, and it's often (but not always) functional by morning. Would be nice if the system could detect when the HDD is pegged, and take some action like "pkill firefox & pkill chromium"

@phryk @ITwrx ionice makes no difference. It's so overtasked I can't even SSH in remotely. I would like to know what in advance can be done to just have a log of what the HDD is doing when it's pegged like that.

@ITwrx @phryk no chance of that in my case. If I nudge the mouse when it gets in this state, the pointer will move in an hour or so /if I'm lucky/. I always have a terminal running but can't even alt-tab to it in this state. Usually I can't even ctrl-alt-F2 to switch to a pure terminal. Hard drive is going ape-shit in this state, likely swapping. I even run "ionice" on all browser sessions.

I cannot find a single non- site to upload a file to without being forced through a

@humanetech @lightweight @alexesc There is also a practical problem with having a minimum profile on : inactive profiles give employers the impression of someone who is unmotivated & out of touch. So a minimum profile that isn't continuously updated with new activity actually works against you. You give up both ethics & self-promotion in this case (iow, worst of both worlds).
