@eff
Those are good points, but they overlook an important factor: consumers need the right to opt-out of the data collection in the first place.
BTW, mastodon.social is a #CloudFlare site. #EFF should be embarrassed to use it.
@linuxtechmore
Dirt on #Reddit is in my timeline.
Reddit has a serious #censorship problem and also supports #Amazon, who finances #climatedenial, mistreats workers, and abuses #privacy.
@linuxtechmore
#Reddit is unethical. If you move to dev.lemmy.ml I'll have a look.
Instead of supporting #Reddit (a #centralized #corrupt power abuser w/#censorship shenanigans), who then empowers #Amazon (thus promoting #facialrecognition, #climatedenial, & #sweatshops), it's more sensible (and ethical) to direct users to #Lemmy:

@CommanderX
I suggest not avoiding the latest #torbrowser version. It has an extremely annoying bug whereby a 2cm border around the window is empty wasted space. A lot of screen space is wasted for no reason.
Indeed the problem is that #lemmy is #centralized. But at least there's a better managed #Reddit replacement until someone creates something #decentralized.
Amnesty International: "Israel has a history of carrying out serious violations of international humanitarian law in Gaza, including war crimes, with impunity and displaying a shocking disregard for Palestinian lives.

Ok, I just found this thread:
https://emacsen.net/@emacsen/102508944203824820
@emacsen isn't clear but I suspect he equates a #boycott on all products touching a region as anti-that-whole-country-ppl-included.
Personally, I focus on #IDF suppliers (#HP, #Microsoft, #Bosche, #AnyVision, #Motorola). Also #Airbnb b/c the scumbags are renting property in the occupied region -- plus #PeterThiel is a scumbag anyway.
BTW, I don't see @emacsen's msgs in this thread for some reason. I see no reason why a #Palestine sympathizer would oppose #BDS, even if it's weak in effect.
What do you mean you would "change your position"? You seem to be firmly on the side of human rights (thus #Palestine) regardless of #BDS effectiveness.
The fact that consumers are mostly apathetic politically & greedy is no excuse for a #Palestine supporter to evade their duty to BDS.
In the US, Israel has a stranglehold on politicians so BDS is the only option there.
In the EU, demand that politcians enforce the Geneva Convention w.r.t. Israel (& also #boycott).
@morteify@fosstodon.org
* rampant silent #censorship implemented in an obnoxious & deceiptful way
* supports a #climatedenial-feeding #privacy-abusing corp (#Amazon)
* #centralized

#Reddit alternatives wanted.
Suggestions for Reddit alternatives wanted. #Reddit is #centralized on #Amazon AWS (thus feeds a #privacy abuser). @reddit@query.org also has chronic #censorship issues that have gotten out of control.
@fitheach
Bingo- duckduckNO indeed. #DDG:
* has already been caught violating their privacy policy
* #Amazon-hosted
* contracts with #privacy abuser #Verizon / #yahoo for ads & search API
* contracts with privacy-abuser #Microsoft for Bing results
* has a CEO w/history of privacy abuse via Names DB

interesting. How does #Revolut expect to win business from us bank haters if they pull the same shit as banks? As the dirt on Revolut continues to unfold, my decision not to use them for jailing their app in #Google #Playstore continues to be reinforced.
Ok #Revolut, I think we are done here, dropping app support for rooted ROMs is one thing (even though no other way to access your account) but selling our data with only opt out via support chat and latest app ver (can't use anyway), is another.

It's a good mission, but it has some flaws that need to be worked out.
It's somewhat implied that the Dell and HP devices are 2nd hand, but the website isn't quite clear on that. It's important, b/c from an ethical standpoint both of these brands are evil. It would be detrimental to support these companies. E.g. HP supplies the Israeli military.
@lioh@fosstodon.org
You package this as a "fair" product that's ready to go, yet you pass the buck to "olimex" for docs? That's not cool. If you're packaging it, you should be looking after these things. It's bad enough that the docs are in #Github; what if Olimex says "screw this I'm done- repo deleted"? Then YOUR customers are S.O.L.
#Debian can't be an "option to" Ubuntu. If you mean buyers can ask to get the laptop delivered with Debian as the sole OS with full support, that must appear in the ad.
@jalcine
Moral /values/ are subjective, but whether a company is "ethical" is less subjective. It's just a measure of the extent that it adheres to a set of values (which may or may not align with your own).
Yes that philosophy is abstract enough to be useless. So I suggest bcorporation.net as the fast and simple answer to what an ethical company is. #bcorps generally give a shit about humanity, unlike most companies (which #RMS describes as "psychopathic").

Alternatively, you can freeze your bottled water in advance, as solids don't have a volume limit.
