I'm planning to work remote from somewhere warm this winter (dec - mar). Where should I go? 🌍

#halp #fediverse #remotework

@Gina @ghostdancer BTW, I suspect would also be a good choice since their seasons are inverted from your hemisphere, and also they have the thing well under control.

@Gina @resist1984 New Zealand's awfully difficult to get into these days, I hear. It was tricky enough to go there for work even before Covid but now…

@ghostdancer

@edavies @ghostdancer @Gina yeah i thought it might be. I recall looking at the point system several years ago and it looked like i fell short of the requirement. I guess that's way wealthy ppl like Peter Thiel are spending lots of money to get NZ citizenship.

@Gina @ghostdancer @edavies although I also vaguely recall a list of careers that were in short supply which eased immigration, and the IT sector was on that list.

@Gina @ghostdancer @edavies But indeed, the travel restrictions to are no joke: immigration.govt.nz/about-us/c It seems if you are vaccinated, test negative, and are willing to quarantine there is still no way for most ppl with no history in NZ to enter.

@resist1984 @Gina @ghostdancer @edavies yeeeah it’s a bit crazy, it I would have suggested it myself. My brother goes to Aussie for work and struggles to get back into NZ (We’re nz citizens).

@resist1984 Care to elaborate on "#Cloudflare-jailed exclusive #walledGarden?" Do you object to sites that use Cloudflare?

@werwolf @Albright Indeed werwolf. Most sites are configured as ticotimes, which exclusively discriminates against some classes of ppl (e.g. some Tor users & those whose ISP uses [often in impoverised areas]). CF's also discriminates against the disabled. Since CF sites are not open to the general public, it's not good to share CF sites in a msg that is open to the public.

@Albright @werwolf I highly recommend following @altlink. That's an automated service that will follow you back, & detect whenever you inadvertently post a URL. It will then DM you w/a non-CF replacement URL. For some more background on Cloudflare wrongdoing, I suggest these articles: git.disroot.org/cyberMonk/libe

I don't object to the sites, I object to the choice of imposing cloudflare captchas on users. but then I end up avoiding the sites because there's no other reasonable way to access them.
