There has been a fight for the right to be online (in part to push for Internet in rural America & for the poor). Superficially that's fair, but the problem is govs already operate with the assumption that people are online. So people are being forced to use & trust svcs from dubious gov-admin'd sites (e.g. ). How can I opt out? Now we need a right to be *offline*.

The right to be online should be coupled with a right to be offline.

@resist1984 Similarly with free software, I heard some people say that the freedom to use (freedom 0) should be amended with a freedom to refuse.

@resist1984 a bit of a tangent, but: same with "smart/IoT" devices.

I said it before -- as long as the core functionality is not related to networked computing (say, toaster, fridge, washing machine, TV screen) I should be able to buy a device with the same parameters as a "smart/IoT" device but with the "smart/IoT" capabilities *provably* disabled or (ideally) not existent.

@rysiek before wifi it'd just be a matter of unplugging ethernet. You could still deny the device wifi access, but now that is building their own network it's even more dicey. Short of tampering, voiding warranties, you'd probably need a signal jammer that targets open APs. 🤔

@resist1984 or regulation requiring provably disabled smart/IoT functionality in such cases.
