@mxtthxw @jumboshrimp Not sure what you saw, but sometimes the cycle lane is immediately next to parked cars where a door can open at any moment. Cyclists in western europe (not sure about UK) have a right to 1 meter clearance from cars, moving or not.

@resist1984 @mxtthxw I totally get that in those circumstances, but this was on a road with no parked cars on either side and nothing preventing them from using it.
These cycle lanes have already made the usable road so much narrower, which is fine since we should really be moving towards a car-less city ideally, but this makes it especially annoying when the people they are made for don't use them.
@jumboshrimp @mxtthxw Another exceptional circumstance: the bike lane becomes optional when a cluster of cyclists need more space from each other.
