"It's a curious thing about our industry: not only do we not learn from our mistakes, we also don't learn from our successes." – Keith Braithwaite

Seriously. A durable, upgradable, battery-swappable laptop with a bunch of ports, trackpoint, middle-mouse button, good keyboard, and LED lamp that can take advantage of at least *some* of the power efficiency and hardware decoding improvements of the past decade. That's it. That's all I need.
@resist1984 @josias Fortunately, it's possible to neuter Intel ME for certain generations nowadays.

@Seirdy @josias ME can never be fully eliminated as it's required for the CPU to boot. The anti-ME configurations can only disable it after a certain point in the boot process. I don't know to what extent we can call it neutered, but my biggest problem is that the ME is anti-non-corporate-consumer & yet non-corporate consumers continue to throw money Intel's way. So Intel still profits in the end.

@josias @Seirdy Consequently, I'm still using 2008 hardware. If that reaches an unsustainable point, I suppose i'll be able to upgrade by dumpster-diving to avoid supporting the 2nd-hand market for spy chips (which indirectly supports the 1st-hand market).
