I heard that if you get the 1st shot of a 2-shot vaccine, the 2nd shot can be a single-shot variety like . Sounds reasonable. But that's more like a rumor and I'm not finding anything solid on it.

@resist1984 I was told by the nurse that for my Moderna vaccine both doses were the same thing, but the second one made me feel like hell and run a fever for about a day because of the antibodies I had built up as a result of the first one.

@gerowen Indeed that's normal.. the 2nd is exactly the same thing but that's when the reaction is strongest. But I've heard the 2nd can be the j&j single shot, which kinda makes sense b/c j&j needs nothing else. It's as if the 1st shot is just wasted. It could make sense to do that if access comes soon after the 1st shot, because j&j is also faster. But I don't see this option in writing.
