Americans with incomes below $75k are getting the full stimulus ($1400). That's per person. What they consider a struggle range is a quite high bar, no? I wouldn't need a stimulus payment if I made half that much. I don't mean to critisize the stimulus or sound republican, just reflecting how high living standards are.

It's as if someone who can't afford a high-end home theater system & 4+ streaming subscriptions in the US + whatever other luxeries are in the $50-75k range, they're suffering.

@resist1984 It's almost as if the motivation were something else...

@resist1984 75k in the U.S. doesn't get you as far as the equivalent amount of currency in another country. Rent, mortgages, food which has counter intuitively become more expensive during the pandemic, faster internet to handle a whole family's conference calls and whatever else they're doing, and have enough left over for an emergency fund? Remember, you absolutely don't get 75k after taxes. If you're in New York, for example, you won't even bring home a full 50k.

I have no strong political standing, and I still think 75k is a perfectly reasonable number when you bring all factors into consideration. Especially taking into account all of the people who have families and who need to support them.

The same amount of money does not go as far in Los Angeles as it does in Tulsa. That is the basis for the argument to shrink federal and grow state governments. But I'd say it is more important to think about how much tax money per taxpayer is being spent, and how much some taxpayers get back. Then look at where the difference is going.
