#Esperanto for "humanitarian" is "homama". IIUC, this is a meticulously designed language that's supposed to be mindful of other latin-based languages.
@vesperto i didn't realize it was that old. So I suppose "homama" predates the slang that makes that sound silly.
@resist1984 and it's alive and well, with a culture of its own and worldwide reach. Whether it'll be the world's second language...
Many words sound silly in other languages.
"homama": hom-am-a: "human" root word, "love" root word, "a" for adjective.
@resist1984 @vesperto It not only was. It was, is and will be.π
All #governments support #writing, but hundreds of millions of persons cannot read. Hitler, Stalin and some others used to prosecute #Esperanto, but it still exists; mathematics professor Sydney Culbert estimated the number of Esperanto speakers as two millions plus minus half million.
@resist1984 it's the most widely spoken planned language and over a century old. It does have some indo-european influences if that's what you mean.
