I'm very cynical about #Google and #privacy, but they always find a new low.

I was helping someone set up wifi on a new #android 10 phone. I happened to look at the settings, and then "advanced" section hidden away under that.

I found that by default, Android avoids using your router/ISP's DNS for every online connection your phone makes.

They use 8.8.8.8 instead (Google) without asking.

This lets them know *every* connection your phone makes, from where, to who and when.

@Blort
What settings exactly? I cannot find it anywhere

@bloved
The exact location of the settings can vary a little depending on whether the phone provider is using stock Android or not.

Generally though it's somewhere along the lines of:
* Settings, then
* Connections
* Wifi
* Settings cog icon for the connected wifi
* Advanced
* DNS 1 and DNS 2

@Blort @bloved on Android 5.1 there is settings>>wifi>>advanced, but there is no DNS setting. So I guess the question is: is 8.8.8.8 an unchangeable default? I suppose that'd be too broken (wan would be die if google ever dropped 8.8.8.8)
