@jalcine fish is different enough from other meats (taste, nutrition, farming, etc) that I don't find it too bizarre to make that separation. w.r.t societal harm, fishing doesn't cause #deforestation & probably doesn't have a significant carbon footprint.
@jalcine i know over-fishing is a problem, but isn't #deforestation a bigger problem? Some ppl go pescatarian in order to minimize harm w/out denying themselves omega-3 fatty acids.
Stopping one doesn’t dismiss, diminish or reduce the impact of the other. We need to stop doing or severely reduce both actions. (https://v2.jacky.wtf/post/5a149c90-bca8-4525-ab05-9415270baa78)
I’m going to have to ask to be taken out of this conversation (and further pseudo-political conversations). I’ve heard this kind of rhetoric used to excuse all forms of abusive and toxic behaviors and I’m not entertaining this. (https://v2.jacky.wtf/post/a492a33f-b182-4068-91ec-ad34a51df044)
@seasharp i agree all non-vegan consumption is harmful -- the extent of which varies depending what's being consumed. Vegan's are the most ethical consumers, of course. But those who cannot (or will not) go vegan obviously have some control over how & what they cut back on. It's a false dichotomy to say "demand not species". It's a problem of disproportionate demand on species.
Fishing is the reason why the ocean is falling apart - with the amount of pollution it causes. The whole triad around straws is just a literal drop in the ocean. (https://v2.jacky.wtf/post/68d9b23b-edff-494d-8ddc-196e59766d75)
