Hello, world!
I would say as far as the whole privacy and Internet security world goes, I'm a fairly new kid on the block. Lots to learn and lots of questions to ask... But came across Mastadon earlier in the week and this instance seems to be the one for me! Amazing that this whole world has been existing in the background and I didn't even know.

@pugtato
Welcome. I think you can learn a lot here and generally on Mastodon since good part of community are Linux users

@nikolal fantastic. Perhaps you can recommend a Linux distro to me as somebody who has never used Linux? Something privacy focussed (obviously) but that still looks/feels good. Ability to do creative stuff there a big plus too

@pugtato @nikolal Well, ya can't go wrong with privacy on any Linux distro. I recommend Ubuntu because its very easy to use and has a lot of tutorials.

@pugtato
For starters I recommend Ubuntu (you can pick your own desktop flavor, like xubuntu, kubuntu etc) or Linux Mint since its GUI is very similar to windows xp. Those are debian based distros (mint is ubuntu based) and they are well supported by forums if you run into some problems and if you want to play with it. Any Linux distro is privacy upgrade from Windows, but your final OS should be QubesOS as most private if you are running from government or something like that.

@pugtato welcome! it's like the version of Twitter that doesn't suck 😆

Nice to have you here! There's feds for everything popping up and this one is the one I call home. Great people here 😁

@Wetrix thanks for the warm welcome! Looking forward to it :)
