Bandwith shouldn't be problem becase if 100 people watch video on your instance they are uploading data between themselves. Copyright is issue even on YouTube. As for hosting price you can always get one raspberry pi and host it on your own, this makes perfect sense to me if you have content that you want to host. You can let other people in if you are feeling generous, and put donation options for your instance support

I think this is better than "connection refused". Who knows maybe server responds sometime, better to wait in between than hell

@marc0janssen
It can, but I like to keep sound on for private chats in case someone needs me in the middle of the night.

@marc0janssen
Its good, I like it more than Protonmail because its affordable. Only thing that I think it needs to be all around good is crypto payments and PGP encryption for external users, its on their roadmap though.

@karan
Oh well, nevermind. Its just that one group that needs muting. Also I like to keep my private chats sound and telephone sound on in case if someone needs me in the middle of night, like grandpa or brother with kidney stones

@karan
The thing is that I want to hear when my gf texts me that she arrived to work, she needs 2h drive to it, (this is only once a week). Can I disable all notifications but that one from Signal?

If Signal would add 8 hours option for "mute notifications" that would be great, I need that "shut up until morning" power.

@karan
I have same policy on JS. I see you got 97% on Page insights, I guess our middle names are Speed?

Maybe this freeze issue is because of kernel version. Ubuntu 20.04 might work fine because it runs 5.4 kernel version. My recommendation: Debian based->PopOS!; Arch based -> Manjaro

@L1Cafe
I guess you are bound to use dkms, which is fine just little bit slower when you update it

@l3g0b0y@fosstodon.org
My guess is Manjaro. I have 1050ti and there were constant freezes on Ubuntu/Kubuntu. I've switched to Manjaro couple of months ago and have no freezes.

@L1Cafe
If you are running kernel >=5.6 you don't need dkms module for wireguard, just install wireguard-tools
