A little rant about Signal

@canony
You don't need sim card on your phone to use Signal with that number, just register that number with Signal and use different sim card. Don't forget to lock further registration with your old sim card.

@BurungHantu
I use git with some bash shell scripting to keep my keepassxc database updated across platforms, once set up its pretty easy way to keep everything up to date.

question:
How is your experience with raspberry pi 3 running pihole and its memory usage? I've added some more blacklist so I'm around 750k blocked domains and memory usage is around 20%. Is it normal or too high?

@Mayana @Rediikid Ubuntu and Linux Mint are distros for starters and very well supported with guides and solutions to common problems from community. Linux Mint has very similar GUI with Windows10 so maybe start there, get familiar with it and then maybe try other non-debian based distros.

@BurungHantu There are other templates, I used this for some future CV I might need. File with css/html must be named index.html otherwise won't work.

Reminder that you can use your keybase.io public folder to host static website. Example:
dzontra.keybase.pub/

@stingeffects It is possible, but integrations are offline for now because there was a breach into matrix.org servers recently. Here is video on how you can setup IRC bridge (and more):

Agreed. Need to get more understanding of it before I switch to anything too different.

I got DNS leak with some OpenNic resolver, but if you say that it doesnt matter that much I'll just keep it 1.1.1.1, it seemed fast enough. I just use it for my pihole as upstream DNS for my home network, so my parents get more private and faster browsing.

@one
I've changed 1.1.1.1 for some OpenNic, as many people advised me. Not so familiar with DNS resolvers, I just know that I should avoid Google DNS

Cloudflare's spam aside, what do you guys think of its DNS resolver 1.1.1.1 and 1.0.0.1?

@one
In fedilab you go to toot which is on domain you want to block and there is "block domain" option in option menu. Its same way on desktop web browser.

Other commercial social networks don't have these properties, and they use everything you do in their platforms to tailor adds for you, and that is their business model, Mastodon is funded by donations. This particular instance is made to draw privacy minded people so they can interact with each other, to share thoughts, suggestions and learn something new, and I think thats very cool and thanks to @BurungHantu for this idea of joining people with this subject together.

@mhrbptl
Mastodon is free and open source (foss) social network platform, and can be selfhosted. Open source means that you can read its code (if you are technical enough) and understand what is done with your data and how it all works. There is no tracking or any other data mining of your content, which makes it privacy respectful social network. You can also host instance yourself, for full-proof privacy since you will own all content on your server.
