Users shoud know that they have power to moderate content they see in their timelines. I wouldn't like some alghorithm or instance admin to choose what I can or can't see. Teach users that they have power to block/mute anything they don't like, thats how it should be done imo.

Some middle ground would be for instance admins to come up with some blocklists and give users option to use it or not, and show users how they can unblock or block more content.

@nikolal @gxtony I think that would leave most of the problem remaining as spam accounts get created and spam before getting finally removed. Something more heuristic and algorithmic would be better.

Algorithm can be ok, but users of instance should be notified that there is some filtering in their instance when registering for that instance. Transparency is always good, users should choose and have power over their content, thats all I'm trying to say
