The spinster.xyz about page reads as pretty tame to me, disallowing "slurs against protected classes". And I was unable to see anything without logging in.

The public feed isn't even viewable without logging in.

Why is it that people care what other people do in the privacy of their own spaces?

If you find content from there that comes to you via federation to be objectionable, mute or block the poster or the instance. Mastodon's tools for this are very good.

"But Alex Gleason based spinster.xyz on Gab, and Gab is evil." Gab is an open source fork of Mastodon. It's a tool. Tools can be USED in an evil manner, but they have no volition, hence cannot themselves be evil."

You have a good point, I also believe that users should have freedom to block or allow whatever content is there to manage with. I believe that @isolategab helps people who want to block all gab instances and that makes sence but also doesn't force his views on all fediverse users.

I agree. If you run an instance, you may block whichever other instances you please. If you use the Fediverse, you may mute or block any individuals you want and block any instances you want. This is as it should be.

But looking for bad actors who haven't actually been in your feed so you can report them to their web service provider? That's beyond the pale.

spinster.xyz says that they're using Gab's software. The site owner is a vegan radical feminist, which seems mighty far away from Gab's typical Trump-hole to me. I don't know if she's a Trump-hole, since I can't see any of the content on that site without getting an account, but I didn't see his name in a quick perusal of her personal web site.

I'm ancap. The state is a huge, organized criminal extortion racket, with pretty much no redeeming social value. I hang out with everybody. And I use the mute button liberally.

@nikolal @billstclair @alexa Thank you, Nikola, you do get what we are trying to do here, and not do.
