There is something I don't understand about #mastodon, care anyone to explain me?
There are different instances to which you can sign up, but when you watch the global timeline from two different accounts on different instancea, some toots are the same, but others are missing.
That means that you can miss toots or users deppending on what instance are you running? Then, how can you know what instance is the right for you?
@Vortax
Instance admins can choose with which instance to federate, afaik our instance admins didn't censor any other instances. Some instances don't show in your timeline either because that instance is unaware of it or just federates with too many instances and you just didn't see toots of other instances because of spam. As for choosing instances most of them have some topic for debate or to relate to but in general you can toot whatever you want, I choose this one becase of topic.
@nikolal
Oh, great, thanks. That also answers my second question. Thanks again :)
@Vortax
Also, you can find users of other instances if you know their username (and our instance is aware of it)
@nikolal
Yes, about that, I found that some domains are not known to thus instance, while they are from others. I suppose it deppends on instances interconnections. You probably cannot have full access to everything without a centralized server, which is exactly what we are trying to avoid here...
@Vortax
Yes, and one last thing. You can set specific instance to appear on specific card (like public, local, home) or in other words to follow local toots from other instance. In fedilab you go to Rearange timeline and you can add others instances there, also they don't have to be Mastodon ones, you can add Pixelfed, PeerTube etc.
@nikolal
Wow, that was just EXACTLY what I was duckducking right now. That is just what I needed. Did you read my mind? :D
Thanks again, mate!
@nikolal
I will definitely try it. Thank so much ^_^
