Yes, me too. I installed Signal and Silence to my parents and couple of friends, and gonna install soon Ubuntu to my friend which only uses computer for web browsing. I see that as my two pennies in this whole story

Silence for e2e sms encryption, Signal as IM. Yes, I agree that Silence is bit outdated, but its only way for encrypting sms messages, afaik. Also, we don't have good data plans so sms is our way of communication when not at home.

@nikolal @greyor I see, didn't consider data to be an obstacle. That's a good solution, I'm pretty lucky in that I get a plan that costs $15 for around 12 GB of data with unlimited SMS and calls
